Idiot much?

i would classify joe more as a stain on the human race than an idiot, but we all have our names for him

Wow. Can you imagine what a nightmare it has been for the editor of the newspaper that broke the story only to find out he was wrong. Especially saying someone is dead prematurely. Sad for him, sad for the Paternos.

Growing up in Pennsylvania, Penn State and Joe Paterno were larger than life, the team everyone wanted to play for, the college everyone wanted to attend. The main campus the place to be. I don't blame him for not being aware of what was happening. People of his generation didn't want to know things like that happened. When confronted, he passed it along not wanted to get involved. Very old school. Should he gotten more involved, probably so. But he didn't. A sad day if he passes away for generations of Penn State fans and admirers.

my grandparents lived in a little township called howard about 20miles from state college. i grew up going up there and his personality permeated everything.

i can't begin to say how disappointed i am in the way he handled that situation, esp. having the relationship i've had with lots of abused children over the years and knowing the hell they went through for too long usually because someone was too afraid to get involved.

but i also can't act as if he wasn't a positive part of very good memories growing up.

i feel for his families and those people up in that area during this time. it's got to be esp. hard for them in dealing with this mixture of emotions and feelings.

so sad that his legacy will forever be tarnished because of what he chose not to do and that some bastard got him unwilllingly involved in the middle of this nightmare of a situation. i just wish he would have chosen to help.

would he want someone to call 911 if he went into cardiac arrest?

or wait until the next day and tell the athletic director?

amazing what one mistake can do.

I didn't have much of an opinion about Paterno. But I'm not escorting him to hell either, that's for the holier than thou crowd.

A mistake he had 1000s of new mornings to fix.
And chose not to.

My devil coming to collect comment in the other thread was just about the situation and how you always see a scenario like this in movies. Make a deal with the devil...he upholds his end of the bargain but with a twist.

Oh I agree with Deals with The Devil and they never being what you really want. But I am not going to tear down a man for making a very bad decision on something he should have gotten up out of his chair and taken a look for himself.

Much worse poo happens every day.

Yes, Paterno made a horrible mistake by not following up, however he still did do great charitable acts, why is it so easy to discredit the good?

unfortunately he deserves the hatred that many feel for him. i don't share it, but i'm not going to condemn it.

i just hope that they (or i) never get put in that situation but if we do that we handle it better. we need to realize how strong that desire will be to sweep it under the rug or forget/pretend that something so despicable could ever happen before our eyes.

It would only be fitting in my eyes that those that are spewing so much hatred toward Joe would be put in a similar situation. It would be a very difficult position to be in, and I don't believe anyone really knows how they would react until they are put in that situation themselves.

Yes he made one big mistake by not following up on Sandusky, but he also has contributed far more to charities and his community than most people will in a lifetime. It's far too easy to overlook all he has done due to one bad decision, and it definitely doesn't validate all the evil remarks he is receiving from some on this board while he is on his death bed.

You call the police and tell them what you know. The police investigate, and you go back to work.
