This is an award voted on by NFL players, coaches and executives as well, showing he earned the respect of his peers.

Cam Newton looked very comfortable in his first NFL season. The defenders trying to stop him did not. That’s why Newton, quarterback of the Carolina Panthers, was the runaway winner of our rookie of the year award.

Newton, the No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, received with 327 votes to Denver linebacker Von Miller’s 96.5. Voting was done by NFL players, coaches and executives.

"the runaway winner of our rookie of the year award."

Runaway is an appropriate adjective. I'd be shocked if any award giving org. names anyone but Cam as the ROY.

Sporting News is the best sports mag. Stopped reading SI years ago after they became the golf magazine.
