That's quite an indictment if his coaches are saying it.

i'm telling you, i don't care what kind of amazing talent they have, if their coaches are telling me that they have an amazing work ethic and drive i don't want to bother with them in the first round, esp. that early.

that's a recipe for bust right there. you wonder why people bust in the first round, there it is.

What is he going to say?? "Yeah they were right I didn't want to get hurt before the draft". "So I didn't play as hard".

I am not too worried about who the Panthers draft at 8/9. I think this staff will take a no nonsense approach to the interviews and really get into what each prospect wants to accomplish at the next level. I just want impact players.

I don't think Coples is good enough - or Hardy bad enough - to take a DE this high. Would rather have Brockers/Still/Kuechly or even Courtney Upshaw or one of the OT's than Coples.

Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina, 6-6, 281, 4.70; projected top-10 pick

Coples leaves Mobile having made a statement that he is the best pass-rushing defensive end in the draft. He consistently displayed excellent foot quickness, good agility and an explosiveness that is uncommon for a 280-pound defensive end. He proved that he can beat offensive tackles inside or outside with a variety of quick moves to pressure the quarterback or make plays against the run. He did a very good job of combining his long arms and natural strength to jolt and drive offensive tackle upright and backward when he bull-rushed.

Most impressive was that he played with very good effort and aggressiveness nearly every snap of practice and in the game, which was one of the big question marks surrounding him. After a strong week of practice, he really finished things off well by being the best player in the game itself.

Im starting to really warm up to this pick. He was a beast at times yesterday during the game and flashed big time ability. I know i was critical of him because it feels like he should be making big plays on every down. But he does have big time potential, he is versatile (could use him in the Justin Tuck mold) and I think his best football is a head of him.

instead iits speculated that the giants are going to try and trade osi umenyiora this offseason and role with tuck an pierre-paul. he only makes 3.25mil next year, why not go after him and take brockers or a DB in the 1st? Charles Johnson, Ron Edwards, Michael Brockers, Osi Umenyiora would be a great front 4

U really think the FO is gonna spend that kinda money..we're already on the cusp of blowing over our salary cap as is..then u wanna sign a guy who wants big time money and is getting up there in age..when u can get a young/raw J-Pep in the form of Quinton Coples..cmon son! Maybe if we were the eagles or the redskins and had money to throw at FAs then yeah but I highly doubt Marty and Mr. Richardson pursue this guy. I do agree that would be a nice front four but so would. CJ, coples, Neblett, and Edwards. Plus this draft is loaded with CBs and we can easily get an elite player in 8/9 picks removed from the first round.

why isn't he a beast more often? if anything, what he did at the senior bowl only made me more frustrated about the possibility of this pick.

it's obvious the talent that he has, but you just can't bank on seeing it all the time. his motor was high for that game, but why isn't it high every game.

some people will give the excuse that it was because the team had given up or it was a crappy situation as if that makes it alright, but all it says to me is that you can expect this guy to show up when things are good and easy, but when things get tough (like it did in '09 and '10) then he'll be sitting on his well paid buttocks.

i just don't trust the guy to show up all the time.

How did Robert Quinn play this season? That should give us a ball-park estimate of how Coples will contribute.

Very true. I have my questions with Coples too and wasnt even really considering him until this week.

For me, I dont know why he isnt always consistent. I think teams will find out more about him when they interview him and see how much he really loves football. Thats what it comes down to for me, does the guy love football because if he does, he will put in the work to be great.

Only things that make sense to me, as to why he didnt perform consistently all year as a senior. He changed positions, might not have been entirely comfortable. Didnt want to get hurt.

Fact is, he did show up to the senior bowl and locked down a top 10 pick by most reports. I trust Hurney but mostly I trust Ron Rivera to get the most out of him, if he is the pick. Look how many questions there were with Cam, Rivera was a believer, he got to know Cam as a person, how he was raised and brought up. That is why they were so confident with the Cam pick. They will do the same research on Coples and for me, I hope he impresses because he has a chance to be great.

UNC's coaches are just trying to cover their own asses. They have greatly under performed despite having immense talent for several years now. With a new head coach a lot of these guys are going to be jobless soon and have to justify their performance to potential employers. Throw the fact that many of them have already been shown to be cheaters and liars I'm not sure why anyone would believe anything that they say.

This is where you went wrong.

Nobody even the biggest Coples Fan will say he is anything close to Peppers.

Only thing he has with Pep is they went to the same school that is it.

I dunno. If you stood Peppers and Coples side by side in pads (especially coming out of college) they'd look similar.

Of course once you got them to run/turn/jump etc you'd notice a big difference.
