I still think many in the media are in shock when they are confronted with a strong showing from the conservative crowd. It's sort of a reality check when they learn that those they socialize and relate with in their urban area workforce and coffee shops do not represent an all encompasing litmus test for the nation as a whole.

We've seen this stunned look before right after the 2004 election when the "morals and values" poll came out as a major reason Bush got re-elected. I think they were stunned that a failed war could still get him back in.

One of the best examples is still the night of the 1994 election when Pubs re-took the house and senate. Every network was cutting into their nightly programming with updates and shocked looks on their faces (remember Connie Chung's expression as she first announced that congress will change party control because of WHITE MALES voting in droves!! - I still remember actually seeing her bottom lip trembling a little).

Doesn't matter how articulate the guy is ... a professional reporter never gets into a debate with someone they're interviewing for a story. I would have been fine with her say that, "according to the Obama administration, xxxx % of Americans, likely including you, will not see a tax increase. How do you respond?" She didn't do that. She not only verbally, stringently and condescendingly disputed him, she did it while shaking his finger at him and trying to take him to task. Not a professional journalist by any stretch.
