Yeah, it's not really "teen adventure" it just so happens that the main character is a teenage girl... it's really post-apoc sci-fi/adventure more than anything... it's not like the books were written in a specific way to appeal to teens imo.

I've read the books and they were worth the time... I did feel like all three kind of ended weirdly... books are always better than their movie adaptations as far as I've ever seen.

I borrowed the first book from a friend. Hopefully going to start it this evening.

Yes, maybe I'm just old... but that moving camera crap is annoying. If I wanna see that I'll watch home movies.

Just joking, man! It has nothing to do with you being a dinosaur (:P) - it really is annoying.

Are the books any good? I typically stay away from the 'Teen Adventure' genre or whatever it is.

Me too. I may get around to reading it one day, but honestly from the user reviews I've read, it sounds like it's a lot of fluff with little substance. That may be great if you're a new reader, but I like deep character development first and foremost. It does sound like it's a great concept for a book though (movie too apparently).

watched it last night due to the hype. Seems like more time spent outside the actual game verses in the game. I hated when a fight happened that the camara was everywhere and I had no idea what was going on. No character buildup outside the district 12 pair whatsoever. Why in the blue hell, if that girl was that good with a bow, didn't she just pick off those other kids sniper style? I also knew zip about the arena. Where were those fireballs coming from? What about those panther things? They can just make actual animals out of programs? That just made the movie worse IMO. What's the point of having the kids fighting to the death if you can just introduce animals or monsters to wipe them out? I get that the President wanted to control the outcome but it just came off really bad. Does she really like that guy or was it her just playing up the audience? I felt bad for the "boyfriend" watching after her family having to watch that bs.

I haven't seen the movie yet but they use things like fireballs to force tributes out of hiding. In the book you do not learn much of any of the other tributes from the other districts.

Read all three books. Was pissed off at the last one. The ending was kinda...meh.

I am 8 chapters into the first book after finally starting it last night. This is 100% in the "teen" genre. The writing is quite abysmal, but the story seems to be intriguing thus far. I do hate the fact that there has been almost 0 depth into any aspect of the story. It's a very face-value writing style. A staple of the "teen" genre.

The first book is good, the second book took a huge nose dive. It was like she let someone else write it and then tried her best to make up for it with the third book.

I honestly felt the same way. For the first, I had a nice mental map of the arena, a nice idea of the characters and their personalities, etc. In the second, the arena didn't have a distinct picture in my mind, and the characters were so much less in depth.

Haven't even bothered reading the third yet.

I'll also concur with this, although it's the concept and the story that did it for me. The writing style... meh. The lovey dovey sh*t... meh.

But the concept is brilliant.

The first was good. It seemed to me like the first was written as a standalone but then re-edited to make it into a trilogy. After the first, the whole love triangle became too much for me and, yes, the writing is definitely shallow and geared towards female teens.

The concept has been done, and redone, many times. The Most Dangerous Game all over again. It's always entertaining though and the first is a short read.

Most Dangerous Game was just one rich dude hunting one other dude. THG followed Battle Royal more than anything. A class of students put on an island to fight to the death, only one survives.

But I think THG is a pretty original idea, although it loosely followed Battle Royal.

I’ve heard mixed reviews..Think I’ll wait to see it. Did anybody else hear about the little girl that played “Rue” getting backlash from hunger games fans. Shame

It is really ignorant how people are acting because they used black actors for the roles of black characters from the book.
