My opinion is that skin color isn't the problem with these analysts and the media. It is laziness.

When you get lazy with these types of analysis it is easy to fall victim to racial stereotypes and/or just follow the easy narrative created even if there isn't any evidence.

The problem is that they don't put he work in and try to put everyone in a box instead of evaluating each QB by their individual skill set.

Like: Cam Newton played QB, was a run pass threat, in the SEC, won a NC, and won a Heisman. The Golden Calf of Bristol played QB, was a run pass threat, in the SEC, won a NC, and won a Heisman. Therefore Cam Newton is The Golden Calf of Bristol. They are the same. Easy peasy. Lazy.

Or: Cam Newton was 6'6, 250 pounds, wore #2, is African American, had a big arm, played in the SEC. Jamarcus Russell was 6'6, 250 pounds, wore #2, is African American, had a big arm, played in the SEC. Therefore Cam Newton and Jamarcus Russell are the same.

Again it is laziness and not willing to explore each QB by their own unique qualities. It is about finding the guy he reminds you most of and cut and pasting their analysis to one another.

My honest opinion is that if Russell, The Golden Calf of Bristol, or Young had set the world on fire in the NFL Cam Newton would have been the consensus number one pick in the draft last year. Instead he had to answer the questions left by Russell, The Golden Calf of Bristol, and Young.

Now instead it is RG3 who is reaping those benefits because of what Cam Newton did.

Very well said.

so let everybody bitch and moan about racism or not racism...then make fun of them all.

this conversation will probably move into that other thread that got started.

the good thing about a bunch of threads beating that zombie horse is that it gives me more reasons to work instead of wasting time in here.

Even better option might be to take all the threads that descend into this kind of silliness and move them automatically to the Tinderbox.

Yeah, but you also have to know your audience will buy into the lazy stereotyping or else they won't support.

Let's not forget knowing your audience is also the driving force behind a lot of how Cam was treated by the media.

For as much as the media was critical of The Golden Calf of Bristol's mechanics, they knew they couldn't go in very hard on him because they knew Tim came with a built in fan-base and they wanted to tap into them.

Don't kid yourself. The media knew who their audience was when they were dealing with Cam. That is what helped to feed the polarization of Cam.

We'll simply charge that mentality up to, not having anything else to criticize Cam for.

I mean think about it, what is the most subject criticism someone can always have of someone....Are they working hard enough. It just happens to be one of the most subject criticism out there.

ITT: black people who scream racism every time a black guy is questioned about ANYTHING.

lol

mayock has absolutely no reason to question cam's work ethic at this point, and he had no reason to question cam's work ethic before he reached the nfl. and just so you're aware, asking "will he continue to work hard?" is questioning his work ethic. and it's baseless.

You read racism into what Mayock said. I see it as follows:

Mayock and the experts now see the unbelievable skill-set that Cam brings to the game....he has the ability to tranform the position maybe like no other QB before him....they see the true greatness that this kid CAN be. Will he continue to put in the effort to reach that unbelievable potential?

will cam continue to work hard?
will cam continue to not use crack?
will cam continue to not rape white women?

the common thread between those three questions is "they're not based in reality." asking a question like "will he continue to work hard" only works under the assumption that he has had questionable work ethic (and guess what, he hasn't)

If he does, the sky is the limit. However, athletes who truly are physically gifted often have learned to get by on those atributes. They never HAD to put in the work to be the best....their physical abilities were already superior.

and this is based on.......?

oh that's right, nothing. just like mayock's "will he continue to work hard" and narwocki's "he's got a fake smile"

Cam could be a Top tier QB without working his ass off

um no he couldn't actually

there's more to football and sports in general than "take ball score with ball" when you're an athletic (see: black) person

of course i'm sure you're one of those types who thinks lebron james doesn't work hard either

Is cam still black? Ok there are still work ethic questions. Is Luck still white and the next combo of elway/Marino/Montana rolled into one? Ok then the analysts will take him over a lazy black guy who relied simply on athletic ability to combine for 35 touchdowns and throw for over 4,000 yards in his rookie season. f**k this noise.

Exactly. Race is used in a lot of cases where it is not warranted. I am not saying Mayock hates Black people. It is just that Cam is viewed as a Black QB and not a QB.

This has been exhausted but for Mayock and other analysts to have Gabbert, ranked ahead of Newton with horrible footwork, from a spread offense(with simple play calling and two reads), average production in a poor defensive conference then....it is because of nothing more than him being a huge white dude.

If I described Cam Newton's season then asked you to imagine it was a white guy...applause ensues...Because now it registers....like the jurors at the end of A Time To Kill....

Warren Moon wasnt saying thes guys are racists...just that Cam is viewed through and hadcuffed to other black qbs that have failed in the past and not on his own merits...it is still apparent that Mayock still has it out and in denial about Cam's season and abilities.

He was mocking the pro bowl about how little effort and how it is a showcase...then jumped all over Newton when he sailed passes as full blitzes were coming at him.

The Gabbert love from Mayock is as bad(not really) as Kipers Clausen love. However at least with Gabbert you see he can make some elite throws when needed but is still way too raw.
