Scott Burnside: We can confirm defensive prospect Keith Aulie of the Toronto Maple Leafs has been traded to Tampa for prospect Carter Ashton. Ashton wwas the 29th overall pick in 2009 and is a big body at 6-foot-3 and 215 lbs. Aulie was initially a Calgary pick, 116th overall, in 2007. He came to Toronto in the Dion Phaneuf trade.

Involves two Canes rivals...

Yeah, I thought Jaro would be dealt. Kinda glad Allen wasn't. But we have a lot of defensemen, all-the-sudden. Joni will be back in 2-3 weeks and Joslin is misplaced playing forward... if we re-sign Allen for next season, we will have a plethora of blueliners. Looks like Ryan Murphy will get stuck in Charlotte for a while. We simply can't re-sign Spacek in the off-season. Maybe he will retire.

Another good thing about getting Gleason and Ruutu's contracts taken care of during the season is that JR can focus more time and energy on getting that elusive top line forward and possibly a second line center to complete the line up. If that happens, we'll be a real threat every night.
