I've been thinking lately Tannehill could really be the widcard for us that could significantly sweeten our Day 1 draft.
It could be someone jumping up before 9 to grab him and having quality draft picks all fall down one slot because let's face it: Other than QB and RB we need help almost everywhere. If 3 QBs get picked before we're at the podium it's good for us because that is a position we are set at.
Oooooooorrrrrrr as you suggest, Tannehill fitting in in a trade down scenario.
Hopefully one way or another things work to our advantage. :cam:

Miami's focus at 8 could be a huge factor with this likely scenario. I see them in the same boat as us decision-wise with the exception of their QB need. Lots of positions that could be addressed at #8 for them. What happens if a surprise BPA ends up available, do they jump on it?

add Claiborne to that list, and if Washington wins the RGIII sweepstakes, probably Richardson....

That's the thing, will those players be gone? La Canfora doesn't think that Claiborne will be gone, and what if Washington doesn't win the sweepstakes for RGIII? Where does Richardson land? It's crazy between 4-10.

That's a good question. Miami could use that pick on Blackmon, if they get Matt Flynn in free agency. Or, they could use that pick on Ryan Tannehill. Who knows?

no

Thanks for that incredible insight!

Can we benefit from having Richardson fall to us? We can't take him, and someone would probably pull that trigger...would the offer be enough? I think we'd select Claiborne or Blackmon without batting an eye, but having an elite RB free-fall past us? I'd hope we could snag that opportunity, but I could see a chance of Richardson slipping right through Washington at #5 and ending up going after Buffalo at #10. Unless someone makes a deal all those teams seem unlikely to go RB in the 1st round.

I don't get all the Matt Flynn hysteria. Here's a guy who has started 2 games in his pro career. Yes, he had one great game, but so what?
Flynn stinks to me of Matt Cassel and Kevin Kolb.
How could any GM make a plan going forward based on Flynn's resume?
Green Bay will laugh all the way to the bank if they somehow manage to Franchise Flynn and find a suitor as New England did after Cassel had one good year as a starter.
Or Flynn will laugh all the way to the bank if the former 7th round pick parlays one good day driving the Packer Ferrari offense into a nice contract.

If Claiborne or Coples are there then I'm probably not doing it. If Hurney knew there was a way to trade back and still get Poe then I'd definitely consider it but I don't see him dropping to the 20s after that combine. According the draft chart:

9th pick = 1350
22nd pick = 780
37th pick (Cleveland's 2nd rounder) = 530

780 + 530 = 1310, which is still a little short. I'm probably telling Cleveland that if they want their QB at #9 then they need to cough up #22 and next year's 1st round pick (knowing CLE it'll be in the top 10). If they say no then take BPA on the board and be done with it. I don't know if I trust Hurney putzing around with a bunch of extra draft picks anyways if he has a can't miss guy in the top 10. So, to me we need to get a "reverse Jeff Otah" deal where the team we are trading with gives US an extra first rounder.

Meh, 1-1 as a starter.
But by all means, sign him 5 years, 75 million.

Either way seems like GB screwed themselves by allowing Flynn to take the reins for a full game at the end of the season against an up-and-coming division rival. Well-oiled machine of an offense at home...he killed it, and it was an epic game. Now they have a Cassel situation over one game because that was enough to rocket Flynn into the stratosphere following Cassel and Kolb. Best of luck to him outside his system.

It's staggering what GM's give to backup QBs hoping they will make their teams winners:
Cassel

Cassel and the Chiefs worked out a six-year deal that will pay him in excess of $10 million a season, according to a source. The contract will keep Cassel with the Chiefs until 2014.
The deal is for $63 million, with $28 million guaranteed, according to a source. He's going to make $40.5 million in the first three years of his contract.

Kolb

Kolb, who turns 27 next month, will sign a five-year contract for just under $64 million that includes $21 million guaranteed, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press.

We have Cam under contract for what, 4 years 22 million?
All these desperate GMs can suck our collective cocks.

I don't get the Flynn hysteria, either. But, Joe Philbin, Flynn's Offensive Coordinator from last year, is now the Head Coach in Miami. So there's definitely a connection there.

Agreed, and it makes great fodder on ESPN. But is it a sound NFL decision?
I think not.

Like Marty is sitting around thinking "hmm, maybe we should start thinking about how we are going to put a team on the field this year, you know, with that cap thing".

Stop worrying about the cap. There are several very smart people working in the front office that know what to do.

Every team finds the money it needs to get the players it wants. Short term, the cap is just something to work around. The cap is more problematic long-term if teams mis-handle it.

Can someone post the full draft value chart? I haven't been able to find it anywhere.
