Romo doesn't have much cap hit this year, but 2013 it is 11.5 million. Not sure Jerruh could find the cap room to add Breesus.
Although Breesus would be a serious upgrade over Romo.

Toothpicks? Guitar picks? Nose picks? What?

I personally wouldn't trade draft picks for him.

brees has already stated he won't play under the franchise tag. he's looking for something around $23-24 mill per year for the first 3 years, which would eat up just about all of their cap space. it's expected that he'll hold out if the saints don't cave and give him what he wants.

and i know everyone brings up nicks and colston but the saints also have meachem and numerous defensive players as free agents. even if brees had taken a discount they were going to have problems resigning everyone.

and on top of that they already don't have a 1st, and with bountygate now they're sure to lose even more picks, face fines and a possible cap penalty as well. oh and several defensive players could be facing multiple game suspensions (to go along with the FAs they lose)

basically what i'm saying is the saints are completely f**ked.

The real beauty here is with the hit the Aints are taking they're basically forced to bend over and give Breesus whatever he wants.

From a new thread on Saintsreport. Many posters seem to think it has legs

Kare Johnson came on at the end of The Sports Hangover and says he has it from his source out of the Brees camp that Drew is "livid" about havig the tag put on him (not really surprising), but also that he will refuse to sign it.

I just hope our ownership is taking notes on this. Position the organization to be making these tough decisions moving into the 28-35 window instead of having to make a tough but necessary decision on a 33 year old player at the apex of his abilities. I can't blame Brees wanting to get a serious pay upgrade from the 10 mil/year numbers he has been making. Trouble is, he's 33 years old and will be on the decline. It's a tough spot for NO. I like it...

Breesus knows he has been underpiad his entire tenure in New Orleans. Let walk by the Chargers after his shoulder injury only shitholes New Orleans and Miami showed interest in Brees.
Brees went with New Orleans and they got very lucky. Now Brees wants his damned Payaday.
The times they are a changin'. :D

Brees can choose not to sign the franchise tender.

Nah, that would never happen. Forget I mentioned it.

Valid point. I even heard some stupid team is working out Randy Moss this week.
