I am not so sure it is about our lack of cap space. Our NFL front office has been historically very good about manipulating the current contracts and cap management.

If we were 30 million under, do you think we would have brought in any of the top tier FA's? Most likely not. That is the way of the Panthers and one of the reasons I love this team. I agree with their strategy. The second we pay Mario Williams 100+ million dollars when he has never done anything for our Franchise is the second I question the intelligence of our front office.

You pay players for their performance on their initial contracts. You reward those individuals who have been performing for you. Not some DE with no team loyalty trying to sell his services to the highest bidder. At least that is my opinion. I like the way our team does business.

There is sooooo much wrong with your posts. Good gracious.

If we can address our current situation at CB and safety, it will be a huge improvement from last year. Especially playing in the NFC South where every team has a vertical offense.

I agree with others that we just don't have the cap space, and just don't have the money to pull the trigger on anybody.

With that said, I disagree with the idea of not using free agency to build. Yes it's totally insane to blow up FA like the Skins, and just throw money around. I understand that we have had some bombs in the past, and our track record with FA's hasnt been great, but building solely through the draft takes ALOT of time, 3-5 years if we are being reasonable, add to that folks that want to win now and you get these posts. I think if used to fill certain needs that standout(and just look at the roster as of today, we need a ton of special teams and defensive help), I think we all can agree that we have a ton of needs and some that arent gonna be cured strictly through the draft.

And while Im at it, ill probably get flamed for this but here goes- Im a Panthers fan, I will pull for them no matter what, and Im tired of hearing we want to run things like the Steelers. We aren't the Steelers, Patriots, Skins... I dont care how the Steelers run their team, we have been around long enough that we need our own identity. Let's run things like the Panthers. I would like to see a team that builds through the draft and utilizes FA's to better the team, period.

Why people keep mentioning other teams? Idc who they got or who they didn't get wtf. Thats pretty sad as a Panthers fan we have to use other teams who's had better running organizations than us as examples

I've been a Panthers fan for almost 10 years now so I'm used to quiet free agency periods. I have a few comments to make about all of the people throwing temper tantrums.

Anyone who thought we were actually going to sign Mario Williams is a complete fuging moron who has no clue about how the NFL actually functions. Besides the fact that we don't have the cap room, you must not have been a fan of us for very long because it's well known that we build through the draft and not free agency. I'm convinced that people throwing a fit are fair weather fans or people who are only here because of Cam. The Carolina Panther's way of doing things is the proven best way. Dallas, Tampa, and Washington can spend all the money they want and it never does them any good at all. Teams like us, Patriots, Giants, Ravens, Packers, and Steelers all build through the draft and those are the teams that have the most success.

So GTFO and go back to the team you bandwagoned before Cam was here if you don't like the way things are done.

There is so much wrong with the post it's laughable, and then to compare or put the panthers in the same group as the Patriots, Giants, Ravens, Packers, and Steelers. Why not throw Jags in there also, they use that winning formula .

The Panthers are a pretty young franchise and have proven that their way of doing things can work. They use the draft as their main source of team building and using free agency to pick up talented yet under the radar players. Through the years are talent evaluators have proven to be pretty damn good in most cases despite missing every once and a while. Last offseason was the perfect example of this philosophy.

We signed D-Will, Jon Beason, Ryan Kalil, Thomas Davis, and Charles Johnson. Every single one of those guys were talent that we drafted and were all going to be top free agents. We also drafted Cam Newton. The franchise QB we've needed since Jake Delhomme went down hill. We didn't need to go out and blow our load on Kevin Kolb like the Eagles did, we drafted out own franchise guy and he had one of the greatest rookie seasons ever. That is what you call building through the draft.

In free agency we got a lot of low level guys and some of them were really good. Ala Antwan Applewhite who was a great contributor to the team. There wasn't buzz around him like Mario Williams, but he was a great value who was signed late in free agency and contributed greatly to this team.

So there, Panther noobs. That's what you can expect since you're obviously so confuzzled. We're going to draft some great talents and we're going to sign a few good under the radar contributors. That's how all the great teams do it.

The Panthers are not making any large FA signings. Let me try and explain a couple of reasons why for those of you who think the sky is falling.

A. Spending large amounts in FA is a recipe for disaster. On the positive side, you are getting a player who has proven himself in the NFL, but, you are also paying much more for a player who is most likely reaching the middle/end of their career and competing with other NFL for high caliber FA’s will no doubt drive the price up. With certain franchises willing to drastically overpay for the top talent, it is a better strategy to allow those teams to max their spending limits early and find talent that might be overlooked.

B. Our team is relatively young. If you think about the positions we would be targeting in FA, we also have young talented players already in the mix at most of those positions. Why would we bring in an older veteran player to compete with the youth we have already established. Especially when you consider that our couching staff is entering their second year and did not have a full offseason to work with the young players. I expect big improvement out of Fua, Bell, Hogan, Kearse, Keiser, McClain, Stanford and numerous other 2nd year players who will have a full offseason of weight training, conditioning, and learning the system

C. It is hard to bring in a veteran player at a position where we have players coming off injuries. If we brought in a veteran replacement and the injured player recovers fully from his ailment, we have wasted cap space. Don’t forget that we finished the season with 18 players on IR. The most notable being Beason, Davis, Edwards, Gettis, Otah, Goodson, and numerous others.

TLDR: We are not entering the FA bidding market because: FA’s cost more than they are worth due to overspending franchises, our team is young and entering their 2nd year under a new coaching staff with no offseason training last year, we have 18 players coming off injury who need to be evaluated.

you dat dude from moneyball?
