If we don't do something by July we have no leverage. If we wait until after the season then he is a free agent and can go anywhere. If we use the franchise tag on him then we are saying we will pay him 8 million for one year which is usually a lot more cap space then you would have if we signed a long term deal. And he could do what Peppers did which was not sign the tag so we couldn't trade him. I really think that we will try and get something done this year.

I thinks the franchise number is closer to 5.5 mil.

EDIT: never mind. It's 7.7 my bad.

doubt that, likely one of the RB's would be a TE, and the one RB position would be Stew and D-Will interchanging

Yes, among other things, this does provide leverage in working out a deal with Stewart.

yea leverage as in, we dont need you that much so we can only offer a fraction of what other teams might be able to offer.

Nope it was 7.7 this year and will likely inch up next year.

Well sort of, but more like, "we're not going to obscenely over pay for you like we did with Williams because we have a decent back behind you, but we'll offer a competitive rate, take it or leave it."

either way, keeping him will be tough unless he just loves it here or nobody else finds him valuable

This smells like a big draft day trade.

So far. We are only bringing in lower level first rounders.

But I think this is for leverage on stew. We have to exercise an option for Tolbert after this season.

Very peculiar.
