does it take into consideration the influx of money from new tv deals?

i'm not buying it.

i don't see much of an increase next year but for the season's beyond that there's no reason it shouldn't jump quite a bit.

this is little more than a smokescreen from owners in the middle of contract negotiations, imo.

Yes it does take that into account, they moved money around in this year and last years seasons.

The cap was supposed to be 111 million last year and 113 million this season. The influx of the new TV deal isn't received by the NFL till after the 2014 season, which is why the 2015 season is the first year that the Cap will see that money.

If I'm not mistaken his contact was built where he got a lot of his money upfront so it Avg out to be a three year contract. I could be wrong but I do remember someone with more knowledge of the cap than me saying that.

It's not front loaded at all, the guaranteed money is front loaded because of this season being fully guaranteed, his base salary is back loaded. With his signing bonus, added in 2014 is a rough year as he'll be taking up almost 10 million dollars in cap.

Cam is on a 5 year deal, the 5th year is a team option that's works like a Franchise tag. The team can work out a new deal with him after season 3.

If this is true that was one dumb deal that could cripple us for a while at a position that does not have much importance anymore.

Something does not add up here and Im sure this statement is prob not true seeing our cap situation. Hurney rarely makes dumb moves within the cap.

His contract breaks down as follows. 3.2 million in cap hits for his Signing bonus and the following are his base / total cap hit

2012 - 5.25 / 8.45 "Base salary is fully guaranteed"
2013 - 4.75 / 7.95
2014 - 5.75 / 8.95
2015 - 6.75 / 9.95

Because of the way his deal is set up, if the Panther's were to cut him now. It would hit the team for a 18 million cap hit. In 2013 that drops to a 9.6 million cap hit, In 2014 the cap hit would be 6.4 million and him being cut or traded would save the team 3.5 million. "6.4 million is still a large cap hit though, so I would be doubtful of him being cut or traded then as well" Most likely he sees this contract till the final year of the deal where the cap hit would only be 3.2 million.

I was talking about the Cap not being raised not Dwill's contract. As I said I dont see how Huney didn't know this when Richardson was on the committee and didnt plan for it. He has never put us in cap hell before and this report does not seem right.

My bad, I think most expected the cap to go up in 2014 till last season came out a bit flat money wise. "I.E, not the increase the NFL and NFLPA was expecting" The NFL is expecting the same thing this season as well, which is why the reports are coming out about the cap staying flat for the next few seasons.

Of course that could change if the NFL revenues go up enough this season to combat the early 7 million cap raise in 2011/2012 seasons.

The article also has comments and quotes in it from two NFL GM's. "Atlanta and Texans."

I think the NFLPA is getting a bit of a reality check of what "benefits" really cost. Most employees don't understand this. And this is what the owners wanted, the cap to account for the money they give to a player that isn't included in a contract. Healthcare cost alone have risen by 120% over the last three years.

To start saving face for both the players and the teams I think we might start seeing benefits included into player contracts so that when the deal is reported the amount will be higher than what the reality is.

I just really really hope this is not true or we can kiss a SB goodbye. We will be an avg team for another 5 years and Hurney will prob be fired.
