I was probably 10 at the time but I probably spent 4 hours trying to beat the Spurs on NBA Jam for Gameboy. I had beaten like 11 teams already so I was deep into the ladder. So I get a huge lead, 4th qtr and the batteries die. I slammed that Gameboy on the bed so many times the batteries flew out then I slammed the screen on the batteries and broke it. Then I pretended to fall down the stairs and begged for a new Gameboy.

this deserves an honorable mention. it was a zelda style rpg where you transformed from a robot to a jet for the top down shooting missions. i never even came close to beating it. the final stage is a boss rush. what a dick move.

getting all 120 stars on mario 64 was tough. diddy kong racing was a cheating piece of poo *****.

the end of psychonauts was pretty tough before they patched it on pc

and of course ninja gaiden black is probably the top of the heap in this thread.

Simple enough, but the level at the end of this video I only beat once... Mind you, I was like 5-7 when I played it. It resulted in that "I give up" cry.

After that, it was probably that STUPID Silent Hill game on the first PS. I couldn't figure out the piano part and I just lost any interest in finding out from other sources if I couldn't do it myself, so I just gave it to my friend and he beat it, lol.

And this wasn't really one I tried to beat, just one that I was amazed with as a child. I don't think any action game ever amazed me as much after this until maybe Metal Gear Solid on Playstation. There was a part where that spotlight followed you as you tried to repel down the side of the building... It was awesome.

anyone play graphic adventure PC games back in the late 90's early 2000's? myst was a bitch, riven was a bitch, and there were a few more extremely difficult ones, but the hardest one to me was traitor's gate. extremely complex, came with six CDs i think, and the whole thing was done in real time, so you only had a certain amount of gameplay time to beat the game, or else you had to start over exhaustively from the beginning.

For older games I would say it was Mega Man. I tried playing the first one recently and I found the controls to be really clunky and hard to get used to. I normally wouldn't complain about that but since they throw you balls deep into a game and can die after 3 steps it's pretty much impossible to get used to the game.

For recent games I would say Gears of War on insane. General Raam just won't die.
