He incurs the wrath of every fanbase he has ever kicked for. He should not be on this team. We need to start a Free (us from) Olindo Mare movement. With t-shirts and rallies that we actually show up for.

we got a tough enough time making up for this garbage defense. don't need kickers missing chip shots that send games into OT for us.

I hope he gets beat out in camp. The Panthers have shown a commitment to improving special teams, this has got to a be a part of the plan not yet executed.

22 for 28 and a 45 yard long is not good enough in a league where teams like Denver and Oakland, who we play next year, are carried by defenses and kickers.

This is way out of the ordinary for me, but I am going to mildly defend Mare:
- His contract is not out of line with top 5 kickers in the league.
- His ranking, based on Profootbalfocus (a very reputable site that has a complex grading formula done every week on every player throughout the year), is top 5.
- He should not be missing chipshots for sure. He was the worst from 30-39 yrds & 50+, but again he ranked towards the top of the league overall, no matter how much we all get disgusted by him.

I am by far, not a Mare supporter, but his screw ups early in the year made every thing he did worse. I cussed him out everytime I saw his ugly face.

No need to flame me, I am just stating the facts (that I trust). I can't post them b/c it is a paid membership for premium stats.

I agree. No matter what we take a huge cap hit, but even tho his overall performance was rated top 5, he missed to many easy kicks.

To be fair, Mare was only a 82% kicker in 2010 before them gave him that huge contract. His % in 2011 was 78.6%, so Hurney should have known what he was getting. Only a 4% difference. Pretty sad if you ask me.

Not to flame you, and I know this was discussed ad nauseum throughout last season, but it's not the number of kicks you miss as much as the kicks themselves. If he can boot anything through between 20-49 week after week, but totally craps the bed on any pressure situation kick that does or could decide a game's outcome, his value drops.

Ideally, we all want a guy who's great in the clutch that we aren't overly reliant on - meaning our offense can score TD's more than settling for FG's.

Preach it brother. Hurney's ability to 'hit' in the 1st round do not insulate him form the rest of his screw ups.

Agreed. The info I was referencing takes the situation into account, but also his perfomance in KOs for touchbacks, etc.

The bottomline is that Mare is not worth his contract & we could have gotten better performance in kick accuracy percentage form lower priced guys.

I've been watching Kasay kick for us since I was 10 years old. (Joe Nedney and Shayne Graham that one year he was hurt). I always took field goals for granted with Kasay. I just assumed they were going in...

Agree my friend. We got spoiled by Kasey & Hurney (JR) screwed the pooch by letting him go too early. I know it was really all about the fact that he could not kick it through the end zone on kickoffs, but what a mistake...Kasey would have been MUCH cheaper too.
