Already looking forward to a Sophmore slump as defenses next year will not be the same watered down defenses he faced last year because of the lockout, he also looks like he will be trying to avoid the dreaded Madden Curse affecting every player since '99 to some extent. Add to that the fact defenses will be better prepared to defend what Cam does like they started to towards end of last season culminating in the decimation week 17 at the Superdome, well it looks like next years arrow is pointing down on Panthers, way down!

CHARLOTTE -- Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has advanced to the round of eight in online voting for the NFL player who will be on the cover of Madden '13, the most popular NFL video game.

The question is, does he want to win and risk the Madden Curse?

Newton will meet Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald in the in the next round. The other quarterfinal matchups are 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis vs. Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers vs. Ravens running back Ray Rice, and Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski vs. Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson.

I dont recall Larry Fitzgerald having any injury the year he was on the cover. The curse is BS. I suppose the fact that Cam will have the same time as those defenses to learn more of the scheme will have no effect.

nothing screams "i'm out of ammo" like throwing superstitious curse lore around and hoping to spook a six-year-old

Cam Newton will be on the cover. He will distroy this curse as he breaks the passing yardage record in his second year. Drew Brees record falls faster the integrity of Who Dat Nation.

So Cam improved last season and the lockout didn't affect his early stats? He broke 300 yards a game only 3 times last season. It's no coincidence all 3 games were within 4 weeks. In 10 of the remaing 13 games, he barely broke 200 yards with 149, 171, and 153 yards the last 3 games.

He might improve, but that doesn't mean he will be good enough to complete for division.

Just look at the 6 wins:
Tampa Bay twice after the team gave up and articles were being written about players giving up
Colts aka worst team and W for every other team also
Jags, same as Colts, the second worst team in league
Redskins, let's just say they share something in common with previous 3 teams, they all pick first in draft
Texans, after they lost their QB twice, although Yates did squeak out some wins so it can be said this was only decent win.

Just face it a ROOKIE put up historical numbers in his first year( with shortened offseason) in your division, and he (CAM) is the future of the division. I only see improvement in the future. You are just in denial and scared because your franchise qb is getting up in age and has just reached his peek. Their is no way brees matches last season and its all down hill from here. This winds of change are in place and its time for the saints to start marching to the basement where they were for most of their 40 yr existence.

Well said. The future is bright for Carolina. The window of opportunity with our QB is broader then the window of opportunity with your QB.
