How do so many of you forget to include Jackson Browne?

I honestly can't pick my favorite.

Donald Fagen and now we can shut this down. Show me someone who can use moray eel in a song and it be good. Show me.

I mean, I even got Fiz hooked on Steely Dan. lol

1) Townes Van Zandt

2) Norman Blake

3) David Allan Coe

4) Jim Croce

5) Seth Avett

I'm sure I left some out that deserved to be before some of those but those are the 5 that are coming to mind. It's impossible to list the best song of true singer/songwriters because that all have hundreds if not thousands.

Woody Guthrie wrote legendary songs about bumble gum, a song of him just counting, and other great songs of the most random little objects.

that's pretty damn cool. I've never seen Billy Joel live but I'd love to. Had tickets to see him and Elton John in Seattle on my birthday a couple years ago with the Hawks playing the next day. they cancelled!!!

I'm not going to list who I think are the top 5 of all time, but instead the top five who have influenced me the past 10 or so years. Top five of all time would probably include the standards Dylan, Lennon/McCartney etc.

1) North Carolina Heros Scott and Seth Avett:

2) Jack White, from his The White Stripes days. Just amazing songwriting recorded like it was 1930.

3) Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse.

4) Jeff Tweedy of Wilco. I haven't listened to their other stuff too much, but their album "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" is incredible.

) and lastly Bob freaking Marley. Kind of cliche, but who didn't get high as poo in high school and feel like Bob was singing directly to you?
