Our beat writer said he'll play MLB and Beason will move to weakside

I hope Kuechly turns out to be a great blitzer, really could use that from the LBs.

Marty Hurney is always saying we're taking the best player available regardless of position. We just did that.

Posted this in the other thread, but it looks like folks migrated over here.

Just listened to the live press conference with Hurney and Rivera.

Short recap:
-Number 1 player on their board at 9; went BPA
-Like his versatility, think he can play all 3 linebacker spot
-Dodged questions about where he'd play. Rivera said, "We'll put the best players on the field."
-Asked Hurney about whether LB injuries were a factor in the pick, "Not at all."
-On possibility of trading back into 1st round, "Probably not"
-Liked his work ethic. 71 out of 71 players showed up. Wanted to make sure they got a guy who'd be number 72.

Don't know about that. Luke can play all 3 LB positions. Hopefully Hurney will answer that question at the press conference (tomorrow?)

I know he CAN, as can Beason. But both are naturally middle linebackers, and I guarantee you both would rather play in their natural position.

If anything Kuechly's natural position is OLB seeing as how he was recruited as a S/OLB. He was moved to the mike in Boston and he succeeded. He may not have played the position in a while, but he wouldn't exactly be "out of position".

GREAT pick. We wil have several options at LB and I am sure Rivera will put the pieces in place to make it work. Both Beason and LK can play any LB position and it gives us great versatility.

Plus is fills one of our biggest needs

Can't stress enough how good a pick this was.

Don't get me wrong I love Thomas Davis. I say it all the time, I wish absolutely nothing but the best for him. But the guy's career is done. If Kookly can place WLB, and we felt he was BPA then it's a great pick. I trust Hurney in the first, I doubt RR would have signed off on this if he didn't feel strong about him.

I love the pick! As we learned from last year....the more line backers the better. Let's keep building that D!
