Agreed. He's old, injury prone, and wasn't much more than serviceable even when healthy. He can be a useful part of the rotation, but Hurney screwed up big by putting us in a position where we had to rely on him to prevent us from starting two rookies at DT.
edwards played in 5 straight full season before he was injured with us, I don't think he is injury prone. He is a starter - not a great one, but a starter. His job is to take up blocks, freeing up lanes for linebackers. He does this well enough... it is true he is nothing special, but we do not need 'special' at DT, we need strong and consistent.
I would have loved to have gotten a great DT in this draft but there just wasn't one they wanted enough to draft over Kuechly. Probably true that any DT they drafted wouldn't have been an immediate-impact kinda guy anyway =|
I guess we'll see if the huddle is right or if hurney is right once the season gets going.
