Charlotte Hornets Rebrand

Uncle Tom - signed KT

If you want to talk about some Uncle Toms, not sure what the worst Bob Johnson creation is: BET or the Bobcats.

I never said Shinn was great. He had a biblical decline. It really goes to show how bad Jordan and Johnson have been when they can't even match up to a rapist who demanded the city build him a new arena.

I wish people would admit that they just want the damned Hornets name back for nostalgia purposes instead of trying to make some kind of business argument.

Selling nostalgia is big business.

There are cars, music, video games, movies, appliances, homes, vacations and clothes that all incorporate nostalgia to encourage people to spend money they otherwise would not feel the urge to spend.

In sports, why would teams play games in retro uniforms if it was not for nostalgia and getting people to spend more of their hard earned money?

There is an excellent business case to be made for the re brand and that case is nostalgia.

There are also people that already have nostalgia for the Bobcats and what they represent. Their memories are very strong too.

Some people will claim that the re brand doesn't matter but the passionate response to these threads tells me it matters more than most people are willing to admit.

That passion is built on nostalgia and nostalgia drives revenue to the bottom line.

Do you really think that nostalgia is going to sell if the Hornets are still BY FAR the worst team in the NBA? Winning would bring more fans and success than any name change would. I'm in favor of becoming the Hornets again but it really won't matter as long as Michael Jordan makes stupid decisions that gets rid of our teams talent and brings in other teams garbage.

CCS- you can win and be the Hornets. It's not an either/or scenario.

The Charlotte Hornets led the entire NBA in merchandise sales for 2 years and they never made it out of the 2nd round of the playoffs.

The Charlotte Bobcats were dead last in the NBA in merchandise sales.

That is a pretty solid business case alone.

Do u believe the Bobcats will ever lead the NBA in merchandise sales?

I don't know of anyone that is seriously suggesting this team will remain in Charlotte based on a re brand alone. Of course the team's on court performance needs to improve.

This team's financial performance is based on many varied issues including the ones we have discussed.

Most business investors want a company's management team to extract the greatest return on investment possible. That is what I had in mind when I wrote my response.

Their last playoff game was after they announced they were moving. How dare the fans not show up for the owner that tried to hold the city hostage over a new coliseum, let great players leave instead of paying them, despite the fact we were #1 in attendance, and then pack up and go to NO !! /sarcasm

I believe the Charlotte Hornets don't exist and outsold the Charlotte Bobcats in merchandise.

You don't really want compare anything between the Charlotte Hornets and expect the Charlotte Bobcats to have performed better.

Name anything you want to compare.

Wins

Winning %

attendance

Merchandise sales

Tv Ratings

Show me any important metric where the Bobcats have outperformed what the Hornets accomplished in Charlotte.

I stand corrected, 3 blacks support the movement. The rest dont give a fug.LOL

JGibs, QC Thundercats can say what he wants, if we had a white owner there would be no rebrand talk. QC Thundercats will give his money and energy to the Bobcat next season and beyond if he wants to support Charlotte's NBA team.. Simple as that. All the crying and chest beating wont change that. This is a tea party lite type movement, a response to wealthy black businessman who got more juice than you. And has a bigger influence. Bobs logo is all over uptown, wheres Shinns?

Why dont you guys print up some Charlotte Hornet tees and hats and sell em? Oh thats right, NO owns that and would sue the hell out of you.

Tonight we enter the draft as the BOBCATS. You guys have done nothing, still local, monolithic, and powerless.

KT-do u remember when Bob was looking to sell the team? George Postolis was the guy that was going to purchase the team and Bob gave MJ a set number of days to come up with the money or George would get the team.

If George owned the team, the same exact movement would be taking place.

If MJ decides to sell the team to a White man tomorrow, the movement will still be going strong

You care about the race of the owner.

Bringbackthebuzz.com doesn't

I really believe that you are just typing bullshit to this site to drive traffic, I can't believe you are as consumed by race as you portray yourself to be on the Internet.

Actually the NBA players association is following the movement as well now.

No comments from you on the awesome charity event that bringbackthebuzz.com is throwing tonight?

Actually you can buy Charlotte Hornets shirts/hats and New Orleans doesn't own that, the NBA does. Remember MJ actually owns 1/30th of the New Orleans Franchise.

You are pathetic....just plain pathetic.

Now you are claiming that the Rebrand Effort is happening because the owner is black? Are you fuging kidding me?

It must be very, very sad to go through life seeing nothing but the color of a man's skin.

Jgibs in 2012 I cant believe there are people whos hate for wealthy blacks is so strong they whine for 8 years and try to gentrify their business. I cant believe the lack of respect blacks contributions to our community are given. Its mind boggling a city that sees itself as progressive and intends to host the DNC and our black prez this fall still embraces this redneck stuff. I cant believe George Shinn gets more loyalty than MICHAEL JORDAN in this city. Its hilarious. If the Bobcats get the #1 pick tonite, it will put a huge dent in your movement. You guys will have to spin it into a negative and convince folks not to buy Davis Bobcat jerseys. Good luck with your charity event, do a lot more of those and you'll catch up to the Bobcats who have done those in our community since 2004. Will catch the buzz donate millions to the local YMCAs as well?
