People overrate McClain because he made a couple of splash plays here and there. But for every splash play he made, there were dozens among dozens of times he got shoved around like a doll. McClain is nothing more than a glorified Nick Hayden, who also would make plays from time to time.

KKL do you deny the holocaust as well? The man just showed you the numbers, blind hate.
You can spout out stats or you can watch the games and form your own opinion as well.
They play different position and were asked to do 2 different things.
They both didn't play well but I saw flashes of McClain doing what a 3 tech needs to be able to do.
I didn't see 1 time where Fua look like a NT which is what he is suppose to be. He didn't demand a double he couldn't hold his spot to save his life against the run. He constantly got pushed out of gaps and spots (where he was suppose to be at) by 1 linemen. He didn't protect the LB's behind him. He seem like a small man playing a Big man position.
Again Both player really weren't that good. I like Shirley, Nebblet and Krease better then both of them.

I went back and watched the game tape of the first few games(will eventually re-watch all of them) and both improved each week in their ability to hold their ground. They both even had moments where they even got some penetration and even faced double teams. They also played in multiple looks very early on when we ran with the 3-4, even saw Mcclain line up as a 3-4 defensive end I prefer to give them the benefit of a doubt much like I did with Lafell his rookie year when many on here were calling him "Baby hands" and "LAFAIL". It is nearly impossible to judge them off 12 games. Very few 3rd round rookies start their first year and especially not side by side. We really don't know what we have in either one of them at this point. Relax and let it play itself out.

I saw Fua getting blown up early in the season, but he got better. I saw a few plays at Stanford where he got erased. However, I think he will be much better this year--We will definitely need to throw six at the spot and see if 4 emerge. Not really going off stats. I'm going by more of what I saw. Fua was 5 yards the wrong way before the play started. Shirley was pushing Olinemen in the backfield most plays he was in.
DTs are just impossible to figure. Draft them early--they bust. Sign a free agent, they are 50/50.

Not one time? Then what of the plays where he caused of defensive stop or pressure. They happened. He didn't play well but to say he didn't show flashes at anytime is a exaggeration.

Andre Neblett 23 15 2.5
Terrell McClain 19 13 1.0
Frank Kearse 10 7 5
Sione Fua 9 4 0
Jason Shirley 4 2 2.5
Of course this doesn't take into account game time, plays called, etc. If it were up to me, I would put Fua on the bubble.

its no way you can say Fua was bad and give McClain a pass. they both were equally bad. plus they played 2 different positions and had 2 different roles.i still say Edwards is the odd man out.
Yes I can. I think they both were bad but Fua was worst at what we ask him to do. He could not hold up as a NT. Maybe that will change with a offseason of bulking up getting stronger and learning the position.
And would you like to make a Sig bet on the Edwards thing.

Name 1 please. Name one play you remember Fua making.
McClain had a drive stopping sacks versus the Vikes.
