Again, Hiroshima was for the Japanese, but Nagasaki sure as poo wasn't.

We didn't even give the Japanese a chance to surrender after Hiroshima.

Riiiight. Fighting island to island against people that would fight to the death...either by us...or by their own sword. Yeah. Bombs had NO impact.

do you understand that no one knew what the bomb was? that any psychological impact they might have had was negated by the fact that A. no one in the japanese high command knew what they were and B. no one survived it?

Think about that. The only way to completely destroy your enemy is to make the PEOPLE realize we did a very stupid thing and we have to change and not ever do anything that stupid ever again.

why yes tell me more of your neocon **** fantasies you disgusting human being

Why would we need to drop another bomb to show Russia and China what we could do? That doesn't even make sense accidentally.

Exactly.

We had two bombs. We told the Japanese to surrender or we would hit them with the first. They said "Yeah, right." So we hit them. They didn't think we could possibly have two weapons with such destruction so they refused to surrender. So we had to use the second one. At that point their will was broken.

But that makes too much common sense to register in the liberal mind, I suppose.

In yet another label, the Smithsonian asserts as fact that "Special leaflets were then dropped on Japanese cities three days before a bombing raid to warn civilians to evacuate." The very next sentence refers to the bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, implying that the civilian inhabitants of Hiroshima were given a warning. In fact, no evidence has ever been uncovered that leaflets warning of atomic attack were dropped on Hiroshima. Indeed, the decision of the Interim Committee was "that we could not give the Japanese any warning."[10]

Hey...we even dropped leaflets after the 1st one warning that we'd do it again. We didn't HAVE to do that. They sure as hell didn't drop leaflets on Pearl Harbor.

Of course that doesn't fit Fiz's world view of the US military.

Russia, not China. Mao hadn't destroyed the Nationalists yet and no one really yet knew that the Red Army had basically sat out much of the big fighting with imperial japan.

and again, no one knew what Hiroshima was. early japanese reports indicate that high command just thought that someone had bombed the communication link with the city.

To show that this wasn't a one off thing. We can do this over and over and over.

I suggest you go look at a time line of events. Pay attention to:

- When the Russians entered the war

- The number of days between Hiroshima and Nagasaki

- The number of days between Nagasaki and surrender

while historians like Meat and g5jamz might have looked at the documentary record and come to the conclusion that the Japanese would never have surrendered until we either A. killed 200,000 women and children or B. lost over a million american lives, that comes into direct conflict with the beliefs of leading miltiary advisors of the time, like general dwight d eisenhower, Admiral Leahy, War Secretary Stimson, and SOS Joseph C Grew. Also an April 30, 1946 study by the War Department's Military Intelligence Division which concluded, "The war would almost certainly have terminated when Russia entered the war against Japan."

however, it is important to listen to all opinions, especially of those of respected posters g5jamz and meat.
