Oh my god, Jamie Duke is one fuging idiot. To sell tickets? We only drafted Cam to sell tickets? and because he was from the south?
Chud and the coaching staff knew Cam was special, dispelled all the myths about his questioned work-ethic by the media and saw a guy who truly wanted to be great. And that he'd work hard to get their. I don't know if they knew how good Cam would be so quickly, but they knew he'd be good.
I don't hink Duke's comment was meant that the only reason that we drafted Cam was to sell tickets. However, there is a bit of truth in what he said.
After the terrible season that the Panthers had with Clausen, there were a lot of people saying that the Panthers needed to do something to energize the fan base and put people in the seats. Because of this, they should take more of a risk and draft the athletic QB with tremendous upside. The safer pick would have been Dareus, etc....but the franchise needed more.
I do think that it did play into the Panthers decision on Cam.

From everything I've seen he's working harder this year than he did last year and plus he has the benefit of a full off season and more time to integrate and practice with the receivers and backs.. if anything he could have another record breaking year the likes of something that's never been seen before.

full offseason with coaching staff and team compared to last year.
full season under his belt.
dude is a workaholic and a perfectionist with a desire to be not just great, but the best to play the game and that mindset is transferring to his teammates.
he has a coaching staff trusting him and believing in him that is smart and progressive and among the most creative in the league.
he has a group of teammates that have totally and completely bought into him and the system and are able to get completely comfortable with their QB and the system.
i'm not buying a sophomore slump. he may not set records like last year. he may have less rushing TDs, but i see him being more efficient and overall more effective. he and this offense will dominate.
all of the combined with an improved defense will mean several more wins than last year and likely a trip to the playoffs...the first of many with cam under center.

I think Cam needs to cut down on the interceptions. I dont think he needs to run for 14 touchdowns or throw for 4000+ to be successful or even great. I think he will be a pro bowl guy for years to come.
I think Cam will always have turnovers...he may cut it back some but with his big play and aggreesive nature it will happen.
What I expect is even more points. I also expect him to break his 14 rushing TD mark....and he will do that bc he is the biggest mismatch the NFL will have seen at the QB position. It will just be too easy while he is young no matter what talent we have in the backfield. Not saying he does it year 2 but within the first 5
I think he will come dangerously close to a 30 passing/ 20 rushing TD season soon. The more the game slows the more of the video game player he will appear

Based on adding Tolbert to the mix, I see his rushing TD's going down significantly. I still don't think that Chud will continue to use Newton as a battering ram full-back inside the 5, like he did last year.

See I don't...Cam can get in the endzone easier than any RB we have on our roster by a good margin. Cam wasn't a battering ram.....he simply couldn't be stopped. Much easier to stop a back. Backs will get there touches but the Cam show is just starting IMO.
I think Tolbert will be heavily used in pass protection, getting better use out of DWill, and insurance for the hindsight mistake Hurney made with our RBs. Not a goaline vulture.
If Cam is the best redzone weapon in the NFL.......which I think he is.....why rely on less efficient means? I think Cam easily hits double digits. If we are up in games then the RBs will play bigger roles. Close one down....Newton will shine.

I almost jizz my pants thinking about the possibilities of Cam running on short yardage behind Silatolu and Otah (if Otah can stay healthy)...

they'll be on opposite sides of the line, won't they?I think they'll still use Cam a good bit in the redzone, but will continue to do it intelligently like they did last year... designed roll outs, etc. trying to keep him from getting big hits...

Isn't Silatolu a RG and Otah a RT?
Or am I crazy?
