Mr. Scot

Griffin vs Newton

That's interesting, the rumblings out of Redskins camp so far is that your wonder boy is having some trouble throwing with anticipation, and his best plays have all involved his legs.

The only thing I've seen are reports that they have been amazed with his passing.

This is the beginning a Huddle hatred for Griffin.......people are weird

In fairness, that's not unusual for an athletic QB that's just starting to make the pro transition.

Well if thats the case than maybe Mr. Scot should have saved this topic til after the season....

The topic was more to see what people thought about the specific quote from MDS, saying that there had "never been an athlete quite like" RG3 at the QB spot. My own take: I don't necessarily see it as a slight to Newton - maybe to Vick - but I do think it's a bit of an exaggeration (which honestly is not that unusual for sportswriters).

This time last year there was "never anyone quite like Cam Newton". Can't say I agreed with that either because to me Newton is just the next guy up in the Elway / Favre mold. Granted, Newton is a little bigger and you could argue more athletic, but it's not like we've never seen this prototype before. There just aren't that many.

That's actually pretty close to my take. Griffin is what Vick would have been if he had a working brain.

Waiting to see how he'll be as a passer though. My gut says he'll be better than Vick. Not ready to buy he'll be as good in that department as Newton is though.

To be honest he could actually be a better passer than Newton. This dude was a starter since like Freshman year. He passed for 37 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions his senior year. While had 28 touchdowns to 6 interceptions. Griffin completed 72.4 percent of his passes, and had an efficiency ranking of 189.48 Cam completed 67.1 percent of his pass with an efficiency rating 188.2. Despite his speed advantage he averaged 3.8 yards a carry. I don't think he is a better runner than Cam who averaged 5.8 yards a carry; but he is still better than most.

You know it is possible for both to be good at the same time. Kinda like Rodgers can be good at the same time as Brady.

In fact upon further review Griffin's stats are equal to or better than Andrew Luck's.

71.29 Completion Rate, both had 37 passing td's, Luck had 10 interceptions, and 3517 passing yards to Griffin's 4293. Its not even close on rushing yards. It could be said the Redskins not the Colts got the better QB.

RGIII- Big XII

Cam- SEC

I agree with the last sentence. RGIII may very well be just as good as Cam. They can be great at the same time.

Cam will be what Andrew Luck was supposed to be.

I'm really hesitant to project college passing numbers to the pros. I know scouts have to do it on a certain level, but they usually have qualifiers (level of competition, type of scheme, etc).

If you went purely on numbers you'd have expected guys like Colt Brennan and Timmy Chang to set the league on fire. Obviously they didn't.

As far as running skills, I'd say Griffin might be harder to catch but Newton would be harder to bring down.

Whether or not Griffin succeeds? He seems like an ultra-nice kid so I hope he does. Just not set to predict it though. Not much truly relevant data to go on at this point.

Not true, Unless Luck breaks all of Cam's rookie records, he will never be what Cam can be. Dude was the front runner for two Heismans and lost to Cam and then Griffin.

I must say that I wasn't surprised when I saw the thread title, but my jaw about dropped to the floor when I saw the author.

"Nooooooo, not Mr. Scot!"

C'mon man you talking about comparing Hawaii to real schools. I'm just saying all things being equal Griffin performed better than Luck. In fact, Griffin I believe was offered a Scholly to Stanford. Luck may have never gotten off the bench.

People will likely have a hissy fit if Luck breaks any of Newtons records. Ditto Griffin.

I don't really care that much about the records, except for the win-loss record. He who wins there wins the big prize.
