WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Obama administration will stop deporting and begin granting work permits to younger illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and have since led law-abiding lives. The election-year initiative addresses a top priority of an influential Latino electorate that has been vocal in its opposition to administration deportation policies.
The policy change, described to The Associated Press by two senior administration officials, will affect as many as 800,000 immigrants who have lived in fear of deportation. It also bypasses Congress and partially achieves the goals of the so-called DREAM Act, a long-sought but never enacted plan to establish a path toward citizenship for young people who came to the United States illegally but who have attended college or served in the military.

I agree with this, but this will not play out well with a LOT of Americans. It will be viewed by many as simply granting immunity to criminals and/or election year pandering....either way this was going to be the more sensible approach.

Obama can't wait until October for surprises...he reads polls.

"Obama does another thing I agree with, but rather than accepting he might be not as insanely liberal as some portray him, I will discount this as election year pandering."

Why?

This is the liberal position. Complete amnesty. I don't know what you're talking about.

I think this is a good move. People who were brought here as kids didn't have a choice in the matter. If they're law abiding residents, it would be wrong to deport them from their home.

True...but in the minds of

this isn't complete amnesty.

The argument will be made from hard right that there is no such thing as a law abiding illegal alien.

yea, but if you understand the difference you don't have to use their buzzwords when you know they're incorrect.

i could give two shiats what insane argument the hard right is going to make about this. an entire ideology based off the concept that unless the future is like the past, we're worse off is not only insane, it's impossible.

when presented with a completely reasonable idea that everyone should agree on but sounds kinda liberal, it's important to specify that it is indeed something evil and awful and the liberal media is just hiding the details.

Wow googoo you've echoed what we've been saying all along - Reagan would be a "California liberal RINO" and laughed at these days for pandering to obviously guilty lawbreakers.
