Darrell Green at Mini-Camp Practice

Okay... I'm a longtime huddle reader and typical lurker but not much of a poster but I had to share this experience from Thursdays practice.

I unknowingly met Darrell Green.

I arrived at the stadium around 11:20 to find that the only available section was in the end zone and seats were filling fast. I just happened to notice 3 empty seats by the walkway on the top row.

I sat down and the guys on both sides of me were very friendly and receptive to my panther chatter. The guy to my left was especially interesting. He asked me if the panthers were any good this year and what they had going on. I thought that was unusual but I shared some thoughts with him. I think maybe he was trying to gauge the typical fan's thoughts and opinions of the team but I didn't know at the time.

Anyway, a little while later he asks me who is that guy down there, is he a Richardson? I looked over and saw Danny Morrison shaking hands and talking to the folks. I told him who the guy was and he jumps up to go over there and speak to him.

I turned back to the action and was watching the practice when he returned. I asked him if he spoke with Morrison and he said no. There were too many TV cameras and photographers and he didn't like them. I thought that was strange... Who is this guy?

A little later I notice Marty Hurney waving my way and this guy beside me was waving back and apparently carrying on some sort of communication.

Next thing I know he is up and walking towards Hurney and I never saw him again.

That is until I came home and find CatMan72's mini-camp post mentioning he saw Darrell Green. Then I found the images posted on the Observer site and that confirmed for me that it was Green that I was sitting beside.

Side note... I remember talking to DG and telling him that Captain Munnerlyn was a good CB but he was too short. LOL. Darrel Green was only 5'9" and must have thought I was an idiot.....

Anyway, I thought that was an interesting encounter.

If Munnerlyn had Darrel Green's speed and timing, his height would be irrelevant. That's not a slam on Munnerlyn, very few players have Green's ability.

Green is one of the few players I would go out of my way to meet.

Some of my favorite moments in football have involved Darrell Green.

I kind of want to know what exactly you told him about the team, so we can gauge if you are indeed an intellectual fan or just a Cam jock sniffer.

Hahaha! I was the guy to Sam's right I think. He turned to me and said "he just waved at Hurney and was gone. Wonder who he is." lol

    • Did you vote for anyone in the last election? Senate? House of Reps? State senator or representative? Governor's race? County Commission? City council? Board of Education? Insurance commissioner? Bond referendum? State judges? I mean, this last election, nationwide, had candidates and races from the bottom to the top, being one of those years when just about every office was up for grabs at every level. Sure, you can take a pass on president, I can see that, I really can and can really empathize. But to not go in and cast a ballot at all?
    • I don't think it's up to me. Things will change when the poor, and working class finally get fed up. The government would rather have them yammering amongst themselves about random poo like transsexuals in bathrooms than waking up and actually looking at the legislation they're passing. Voting alone in no way is going to change what ails this country. You can't expect one vote to change a corrupt system. That's what I've been trying to get through to you. But you keep droning on about how sacred voting is like that actually still means something. You're playing checkers, and the elite of this country that run things are playing chess.
