I know there are a lot of great fans in South Carolina that may feel a little butt-hurt asking this...

but why do the Panthers (and Hurricanes for that matter) use Carolina instead of North Carolina? What about the "Charlotte Panthers"? Is it because it is just rolls off the tongue easier? Do they just want a larger fan base?

If you look at the Panthers logo upside down its a map of South and North Carolina together " Carolina Panthers" that's the way Richardson wanted to be done .

Charleston is an anomaly in SC. If it was the norm this wouldn't be a discussion

Let's look at NC Cities:

Greensboro - Strip malls
Raleigh - Larger amount of strip malls with a handful of South Asian engineers to provide "culture".
Charlotte - Even larger amount of strip malls with a deserted downtown. Populated by bankers with bad haircuts.
Fayetteville - Giant poo hole
Asheville - Cool town overrun by hippies and retired people
Wilmington - Small charming coastal town reminiscent of Beaufort, SC

Charleston is an anomaly for both of the Carolinas, honestly.

I'm curious to know from all you South Carolina fans... if the Panthers originially were the Charlotte Panthers or NC Panthers would you still have been as big of a fan?

Having lived significant time in both states, the only thing NC has over SC is Asheville. However, I don't care if they're called the Belmont Mudhens, they're still gonna be my team.

When you get rid of Jerry, maybe this will be a discussion. But since he decides what they're called and he went to Wofford, he's going to keep it like this...

For the record, I'm not advocating for a name change. I just wanted to hear other's thoughts on the matter. It probably only pissed me off when I was 10 years old back in 1995.

Sure. But NC Panthers sounds ghey. Both Charlotte and Carolina sound better.

I've never heard of that. Do you have a link to back that up?

Old time Panther fans know this as fact. I remember when the helmets and the logo came out.
