So the last few pages got me thinking. Does anyone else here deal with criticism or half serious jokes about working out too much or being obsessed?  I do, I wish people were more supportive about my hobbies and interested than critical. I don't criticize them for playing video games over 10 hours a week or watching tons of TV or whatever they are into.

Also, I love Kale salads. You gotta rub the seasonings and dressing into the Kale it kind of absorbe it.

I've said it before - jealousy.

Kale is cool, had it in a salad the other night, cherry tomatoes, feta cheese (just a lil) and some greek Vinaigrette dressing, not bad....

That being said, I haven't really run into anybody that talks about the healthy thing, my wife is supportive which is all that really matters, to hell with everybody else...JMO

catfang is right... it's just jealousy more than anything imo... esp with women.

My wife has said she gets that some... there are a lot of compliments (she's lost ~25 lbs) but some of them are the backhanded variety we've discussed before.

I can say that I personally haven't really had that...  I do get comments sometimes (moreso recently) that are like "dude, you must work out a lot" stuff like that... but honestly I take it as a compliment that they noticed.

I was playing golf with a buddy of mine in a foursome with two of his other friends that I didn't know and one of them made some comment about my arms being big...  he kind of said it in a weird way, kind of like questioningly if that makes sense... so I just kind of ignored it.   Some people are just weird I guess.

As far as being "obsessed" I wouldn't say that (about myself), I will say that I'm definitely addicted to it... who doesn't like feeling good and being strong?

I just don't think there's anything "irregular" about it... as I was saying with Alice.

I spend about 1.5-2 hours a day after work in the gym 5-6 days a week... but my wife and kids come too and we're all always home for dinner together so...  some people may not like it, but idgaf.

I will say it is definitely brought on by jealousy. People who don't workout criticize others for being "crazy" about it, as if it's unhealthy to exercise.

It is also brought on by people who take fitness very seriously thinking they are the world's personal trainer. More often than not, people who take fitness very seriously have a tendency to throw it in other people's faces and try to give them fitness advice when they aren't looking for it. It's the condescending attitude that frustrates people into making snide little comments.

Fitness is extremely important to me, but I am very quiet about it. If someone asks, I will give them an answer. Otherwise, I find no need in throwing it in their faces.

It absolutely works both ways... I've seen plenty of fitness types be very arrogant and disrespectful of others who are just starting out.

Yeah she's really gotten into it... she started out with the Weight Watchers thing just dieting and lost about 18-20 pounds on that... then she started getting serious about walking and going to the gym doing classes (zumba, step, etc) and cardio.

Now she's actually asking me "can we go to the gym" on Saturday mornings and stuff...  it's a LOT better than being nagged about not going... lol

I want her to start lifting with me but she's afraid she'll "look like a man"...

She should do it! My arms started looking a bit too bulky for my taste so when I noticed it I just backed off a bit. But I love having defined arm muscles, much more interesting looking.

That's what I told her.

She's already scary strong...  she's lifted with me a few times... she's 5'4", 125 (now) and she can easily bench 95 6 reps.

I go to the gym every single day. It is my lifestyle.

My girlfriend gets benefit from going to the gym for no more than 30 minutes 3 times a week. That is no more her "lifestyle" than reading every night before bed for 30 minutes is my "lifestyle."

treadmills aren't exercise

also her lifestyle could be watching honey boo boo and eating potato chips while ordering get thin quick schemes off television.   but its not.  she has a fitness lifestyle if she's working out enough to maintain or show progress.   otherwise she's just wasting her time.

fitness isn't just exercising.  its eating right and having the right frame of mind and perception.  it requires self awareness that ordinary motherfugers don't have.
