unbiased (or hell, biased if you want) opinions on the muslim brotherhood

Recommended Posts

my parents are massive glenn beck fans (they also hate mexicans and socialists and gays, so it's no real surprise.) my mother posted the following link to facebook:

http://www.glennbeck.com/2012/07/19/developing-michele-bachmann-responds-to-attacks-after-she-calls-for-investigation-into-muslim-brotherhood/

while i personally cannot stand beck, and i think bachmann is completely insane, this article brought up a legitimate question (indirectly; they did not bring it up, but it occurred to me) regarding the muslim brotherhood, their geopolitical relevance, and whether or not they are as radical as beck and bachmann seem to think. are they just fearmongering for votes (business as usual) or do they actually have a point on this one?

All I have heard on TV is Terrorist group.

That said the other day a Professor from some college called up my local radio station when they were talking about them.

In a nutshell he said they are much more bark than bite, like the FoxNews/MSNBC of the Muslim world.

Oh I also remember as I read that link (Gbeck is such a toolbag) some other shows mentioning this group infiltrating the US Gov, and that some senators wife is the sister of one of the Brotherhoods high ranking dudes.

Sorry for poor backing up of this, its just what I can remember

I can see why Michele Bachmann would be so concerned. If they managed to infiltrate the government, they might.... govern with the exact same views as Michele Bachmann.

lol this was my thought. sharia law wouldn't look terribly different in spirit from religious arch-conservative biblical literalist mandates that she and her constituency would attempt to enact.

but, that aside, does she have a point regarding MB?

So essentially Bachman is questioning these Muslims loyalty for no other reason than that they're Muslim... great job Michelle. Way to look like the dumbass you are...

Religious extremism has no part in our government, no matter the religion...

She might have a point if anything she said was true. What she says in the Beck thing you posted sounds reasonable ("We should investigate because her father was in the Muslim Brotherhood," there's nothing unreasonable about investigating, if that was true) but they are flat out lies. Huma Abedin's family are NOT members of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Her father: Syed Abedin

Bachmann's claim: He was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Reality: He died in 1993. He was a phd professor of social science, and founded the Institute of Muslim Minority Affairs in Saudi Arabia in 1985. In 2002, Brigham Young University published a paper that said that institute was supported by Dr. Umar Nasif, who worked at an organization called Muslim World League, which may have been supported by the Muslim Brotherhood.

This is Bachmann's evidence. Her father founded an institute, which was viewed favorably by a man who worked at another institute, which may have been viewed favorably by the Muslim Brotherhood.

So no, she doesn't have a point.

I bet if we look at who donates to Bachmann, and who in turn donates to her donators, we could find some pretty interesting things.

Don't understand how you hate someone you've obviously never listened to? They are not called the loving worldwide brotherhood. So, if you are not a muslim it's not for you. And I admit there won't be full scale attacks on the U.S. But they know how to tear down our system. And have been working at it for alot longer than our media has reported it. They have members working in our gov, as well as the govs falling in the mideast as well as the ones that were already friendly to them. They are not collecting power and influence for no reason.

i have listened to glenn beck on numerous occasions and i cannot understand how anyone with the ability to think critically cannot see through his chicanery.

but i don't think he thrives on people who think critically - it's the uneducated robots who want to eradicate socialist kenyan hitler from his position taking over the milky way galaxy who are most easily drawn into the foaming froth of his demagoguery.
