The Panthers have placed WR David Gettis on the PUP list. Not a big deal. They can bring him off at anytime. He's fine. Just recovering.

Thus the Murphy trade.

Wow, explains the Murphy deal. If he was "fine" he wouldn't be on the PUP right now.

IIRC, Rivera mentioned how he was still adjusting or something of the sort.

A note on David Gettis going on PUP. Don't panic. It's more a procedural thing than anything else.

I'm sure he's fine. Sounds like his recovery is just going a bit slower than expected. Guessing Murphy was brought in as Gettis insurance.

I like that they're giving him all the time he needs. Smart move FO.

I've had the feeling that Gettis wasn't coming along that well. This would explain why we have a roster full of WR's.

It's so procedural that we traded for a receiver the same day. That's just how we roll in carolina.

I don't think Gettis would have been cleared for mini-camp if something was still seriously wrong with him.

There is one real reason that this is being done. To free up roster space for camp. This allows them to stash Gettis on the Pup while allowing them to keep another WR longer into camp without cutting him. This gives them more time to evaluate the 10million WR's they have coming to camp.

ACL reconstruction recovery for a receiver takes longer than for a guy who doesn't have to cut sharply on just about every play. It doesn't mean Gettis won't play simply that it takes more time. Most running backs need almost 18-24 months to fully recover. Sure they can play in 6-8 months but to fully recover it takes longer. Look at Hogan for example, the same thing applies to corners.
