I'll answer it for you: No you wouldn't.
Would he still be considered the best player available?
No he wouldn't be.
This is no different. An ACL is a major injury. He wasn't the best player available because he couldn't come in an contribute immediately. How can you be a "player" if you can't be counted on to get on the field and "play"?
How is this different? Most analyst didn't even think Peyton would play again but people are willing to take a chance because of his potential to be good again.
The Panthers drafted Hogan based on potential because he has the ability to be a starter.
You only want guarantees, and I can tell you that is the easiest way to get fired because you miss out on the biggest rewards.
