We're going to need to bring in more help at DT before the season starts or we can get used to seeing stuff like this on a regular basis.

I would love to see stuff like this on a regular basis. Forced fumbles and recoveries are awesome.

I bought the preseason package and watched the play again and here is what I saw from each players perspective (that was visible)

1. Charles Johnson did a good job getting off his block and eliminating the chance for a cutback. (Good)
2. Neblett avoids the blocker and has the chance to stop Foster for a two yard gain but Foster runs through the arm tackle. (Awful)
3. Ron Edwards wasn't able to get off his block (possible holding penalty there), any who, he was taken out of the play by his blocker and a teammate. (Bad)
4. Greg Hardy did well and eliminated the possibility of Foster having a chance to get to the outside (if the play was ran that way). (Good)
5. Jason Phillips looked like he came on a blitz which completely took himself and Ron Edwards out of the play because they got tangled. (Bad)
6. Luke Kuechly was in the right place at the start of the play and once he realized the play was a run and wasn't coming to the outside he got off his block, ran down Foster, and made the play. (Great)
7. James Anderson just got absolutely mauled by a run blocker, due to Neblett not being able to take down Foster, Anderson was the next line of defense but whoever blocked Anderson did a fantastic job. (Awful)
8. Charles Godfrey just got absolutely blasted as well, he was the third line of defense behind Neblett and Anderson and if it wasn't for Kuechly, this, Foster would have gotten a first down. (Awful)
9-11: Chris Gamble, Captain Munnerlyn, and Sherrod Martin all stuck with their marks until they realized it was run, they collapsed on the run once they realized it the play was run and would have stopped Foster after a 10 yard run if Kuechly didn't make the play. Gamble, Munnerlyn, and Martin were all in the right place and all three of them had a shot at recovering the fumble, the ball just happened to bounce to Martin. (Gamble, Munnerlyn: Good... Martin: Great)

In Summary...

Great: Kuechly, Martin
Good: Johnson, Hardy, Gamble, Munnerlyn
Bad: Phillips, Edwards
Awful: Neblett, Anderson, Godfrey

There ya go.

Nice. Good analysis. I gotta wonder...with Beason in there instead of Phillips, would that have made a difference? Probably Beason would have been able to read and communicate assignments better in that situation. Perhaps the LB and DT don't get tangled and the play gets stopped after 3 or 4 yds.

Don't you think its ironic that our DBs are "good" against the run...however, isn't it possible that any of the DBs in on that play could have missed a tackle (its been known to happen)?

Neblett beat the cut block but reacted too slowly and made a poor attempt at tackling... he was essentially unblocked and could have blown that play up for a loss.

Edwards did his job before the ball was even snapped, he commanded a double team.

Kuechly = beast.

It's just sad that we had 8 guys in the box and Foster still gashed us for 11 yards before Kuechly came to the rescue...ugh

So because the DTs didn't do a great job on a single play and our backup middle linebackers wasn't great, the defense is going to be poor again....................................
Lets not talk about the goal line stand, or the fact that Foster only ran the ball that one play. Lets open up a new thread just to discuss one meaningless in the first preseason game of the year to illustrate nothing of importance.

Got it......................

If you don't want to discuss the game or the play in question...just don't. If there is nothing of meaning to discuss about the meaningless game just take a break until the regular season. Whatever you do please stop whining that everyone doesn't have the same take on things as you.

Clark Kent simply can't make everyone else's plays for them all year. Neither can Beason.

We need to fix this DL and secondary ASAP.

You obvious mistake whining for pointing out the absurdity of trying to make any conclusions from a meaningless play in the first preseason game of the year. I have never understood the posters here or in the news who spend an hour dissecting a single play as if it is significant or representative of anything larger and stated my opinion.
As for stating my opinion, if I agree with you it is insight but if I think it is absurd it is whining??

Got it..........................................................................

Nice to know the parameters............................................

that meaningles play simply helps confirm what we already knew about parts of this D.

You could take another play as well, say Godfrey being horrible in coverage in that game. It isn't meaningless, it reinforces that S and Godfrey show no signs of being any different than what we knew about him.

No it doesn't. It only confirms in your mind what you already think is true. I think the D line will be much better and my play to confirm it was the goal line stop. Both examples are isolated plays and not necessarily representative, The difference is that I am smart enough to know that.

yes, you are smart. Unlike me, you never ramble on and on and on. You also admit when you have been wrong (for example one time you mispelled Tshminga Biakabutuka and quickly admitted that it was done in error).

I'll holla at you draft time and we can be buds then. Regualr season we are too black and white. I'm done.

...and what I mean by that is I will ignore you for about an hr and then start bickering with you again

Wouldn't have been a problem if Hurney would just sign us a 700lbs 6'9" DT that can bench 900 and run a 3.7 40.

Here is the problem. Most olineman Gs now days weigh about the same as most DTs do. So it takes more then just weight to eat up space in the running lane. Those DTs got to learn to shred blocks and get to there position quick as possible. Weight is not so much the factor, but who wins out in the trenches as they say. Fatboy vs fatboy. So Mcclain and Fue got to learn to shred those blocks better and get there sooner. If not then they are going to get pushed around more and more every game until they learn.
