Adams getting the ball in the slot on screens could be nasty. Homerum type stuff we haven't seen since a young Smitty. Not sure he is useful yet as a WR beyond that.....But he has some real potential

It's sad that some people only see Adams as a return specialist even though he was solid receiver in college, had quickness that made him difficult to catch, and wasn't afraid of running across the middle of the field. I want Adams to focus on giving us some good field position, but I would hate if we didn't try implementing his skillset into this offense.

I know Gettis is a board favorite based on flashes in 2010 but he has not played in, well, a long long time. Perspective: Armanti Edwards, Gettis and I had the same number of receptions last year. That said he has potential but I don't want to artificially inflate expectations.

Flashes in 2010? He had Moore/Clausen as the QB's and managed to look like a solid #2 as a rookie.

I'm on my phone and was in a bad cvg area, so it submitted twice because I was impatient.

For me it's one of those things where they have a small guy like Captain playing nickel then I prefer Murphy, Gettis but if it's a bigger, less agile CB then I think you go to Pilares or Joe Adams. OR, throw Murphy outside, bring Smith to the slot as a lot of CB's only play outside.

If they leave the LB in, then choose whomever.

I think we will definitely be seeing Smitty line up in the slot some this year.

Also, I find it interesting that Joe Adams hasn't been targeted for a pass in the preseason so far. Are we planning on solely using him at PR this year?

I think they have been trying hard to identify a red zone threat. That's why Tutu is getting so many looks, and probably why they went after Murphy.

Adams is an exciting young player, but Smitty and Pilares give us much of what Adams probably will. He may not see many looks at WR this year, much like Pilares didn't get many last year.

For a guy that's not grasping the playbook, he sure is making plays.

Pilares as a slot guy imo, Murphy doesn't seem like he's grasping the playbook all that well.

Lol, wut?

What are you basing this on?

Smitty
LaFell

Murphy/Pilares
Adams
Gettis

Although Gettis wowed me in '10, he's done nothing in this new offense to warrant a roster spot. People are hating on Hogan for not being healthy, but Gettis seems to get a free pass. I hope he comes back to form, but you must remember, both Gettis and LaFell were in Rivera's doghouse last offseason, and at least LaFell was able to earn his way out of it...and even that took well into the season for him to unseat Legatron.

None of us really know Gettis' work ethic. For all we know, he's a player who felt like he "arrived" based off of 2010...and that's something RR doesn't stand for. I'll admit, this is pure speculation, but RR's comments on LaFell and Gettis last offseason were unfavorable and salty. If Gettis doesn't find himself healthy soon, he might go the way of Otah (minus the trade drama)...

i see the pecking order for targets/catches being
smitty
lafell
olsen
tolbert
stewart

i just don't see much after that. i can't see much more than maybe 100-150 yards and a score or two from any actual WR than smith and lafell mainly because of the competition for targets between guys at other positions. between those 5 i listed and maybe williams i see 18-20 catches per game and i just can't see more than a couple more receptions added to that per game.

i can see a committee approach to the WR3, but even if one guy won it straight out i don't see him being much of a factor.

If we're talking about a pecking order, then I would go with Olsen as the second option.

Smith
Olsen/Barnidge
LaFell
Various RB
Murphy/Pilares
Whomever else is left

i could go either way on that one. i don't think there will be a whole lot of difference in the number of catches and TDs, tbh. lafell will probably have more yardage but that's got more to do with situations they are asked to catch in.

I'd bump the RBs ahead of the TEs in terms of targets.
