Let's blissfully ignore the fact that the most dangerous terrorist organizations in the world are founded on fundamentalist Islam.

Or what that says about fundamentalist Islam.

I'm glad we've established that most atheists in this thread are just in it for the trendy counterculture.

Also agree 100% with pstall about atheists who act victimized needing to grow a pair.

I'm sorry put I'd put the Lord's Resistance Army above all on the level of terrorizing

do you seriously consider "terrorism" to be significant danger to the long term viability of this country?

Am I threatened by terrorists that would use nuclear weapons to destroy said country? Yeah, a little.

This notion that Christianity is some rampaging juggernaut that's raping the virtue of reason in every facet of society baffles me. Christianity has been the whipping boy of intellectuals and academics for decades. It's not only acceptable, but actively encouraged for Christian doctrine and families to be ridiculed, from Comedy Central to Harvard classrooms. Jokes about the Bible being a fairy tale and Jesus-shaped tacos being a sign of the second coming are more common than snark on a message board.

Apparently the only ones who take Christianity seriously anymore are people who go out of their way to tell you how silly it is.

And woe is us for all that Christian indoctrination that goes on when we're younger. The same indoctrination that, wouldn't you know, seems really unsuccessful at preventing kids from saying "screw church" when they move out of their parents' house.

Yet people who complain about nonsense like creationism in schools are completely fine with government provided and compulsory education, which is a thousand times more dangerous and badly-motivated than the idiocy of Christian leaders with no real power.

And call me nuts, but children being taught that God may or may not have created the Earth is not seriously undermining reason and science.

While I have no respect for Christianity or the republicans (I supported Obama over McCain for this exact reason), let's drop the alarmist "CHRISTIANITY'S GONNA RUIN THIS COUNTRY ANY DAY NOW" crap. You guys sound as bad as the "SOCIALISM ANY DAY NOW" republicans you love to caricature.

Persecution complex much? Its the dominant religion, its going to be made fun of. Stop overreacting.

Well sure, other than the fact that it goes completely against reason and science.

you're flying off the handle a little here dude.

I never said christianity is going to ruin this country any day. I don't believe that would be possible. I despise a culture of ignorance as I would assume you do. I'm not claiming victim in this argument.

Do you even know how reason and science work? Children being taught that the Christian god may or may not have created the Earth is just as viable as a rabbit wearing a top-hat and sitting on Jupiter creating the Earth. Both are seriously undermining both science and reason.

Seriously, the rest of your rant is just, like, your opinion, man. Bring some facts. Here are some from me:

-The Crusades

-The Spanish Inquisition

-9/11

-Holocaust (at least partially)

-The Catholic Church as a whole (biggest, most powerful criminal organization to ever exist)

The above is part of the reason religion gets no respect from me. You can have your voluntary, willful, gleeful ignorance.

So religions are made fun of when they're dominant?

Head over to the Middle East and let me know how many comedians and professors you find calling Muslims towel-headed idiots.

Then we'll discuss why you completely missed the point.

And, if it wasn't obvious, I'm an atheist.

Well sure, other than the fact that it goes completely against reason and science.

Yes, the correct way to teach children to be logical is to tell them what's logical. Not present them with different arguments and challenge them to reach their own conclusions.

Let me be clear about something here. I don't want creationism taught in schools. But this is one of those issues that people love to take a moral stand on because it's an easy chance to be self-righteous and morally pretentious. When I learned about creationism in school, it was addressed in about 1-2 minutes, then passed over and never brought up again. Oh, those poor, indoctrinated peers of mine.

Fair enough. Though I think you'd agree that plenty of atheists and other religious minorities love to act victimized when it comes to this stuff. Especially in the conversational wild west of the internet, where opinions are cheap and meaningless.

See my response to thatlookseasy.

I will remain voluntarily, willfully, and gleefully ignorant of the nationwide travesties that are door-to-door Bible pushers and Sunday morning talk radio, thank you.

Careful pstall. Offering to buy someone a beer has been known to be construed by some tenderbox posters as a possible threat.
