Cam's performance

Honestly though it was pretty good all things considered. He can throw on any defense he wants to. Protection was not good. Pretty efficient day, the two picks were bad.

Is anyone REALLY worried about Cam Newton? I'm not. Now that the dust has settled a few hours... any really truly worried?

Wasnt impressed though the o line didnt help

yeah to be honest at this point Im concerned we might have a non franchise type franchise qb - we might be stuck in this gear for awhile and Im getting old.

He ignored his checkdowns at some bad points. He has to recognize that taking small chunks of yards can soften defenses up too.

I'm not worried but he needs to stop forcing things when plays go south and learn to not make a bad play worse. Beyond the olines poor play, he still seemed very hesitant at times and indecisive

DeAngelo could have gotten a first down when he had that first int

I was more dissapointed in the line than I was him.

He held the ball a couple times way too long, and there were also times when he left the pocket, when he didn't need too.

It's so easy to forget that he's only in the start of his 2nd year. The expectations are so high for him. He is going to be a good one, but like all QB's, he needs time in the pocket. He made a couple throws that were great. The two deep balls to Murphy (including the one that was broken up on a great play by barron, were great throws).

you guys need a few weeks worth of watching Cleveland Browns football... and have your cam taken away from you like a water supply... then you tell me what you think of him.

Browns fans I live around are ready to kill themselves

To play devil's advocate: Cam has struggled for a while now. Played poorly the 2nd half of the last regular season game last year. Played poorly in the Pro Bowl. Played poorly at worst and mediocre at best all preseason. And now played poorly to mediocre today.

Good news? That's just a game and a half of bad football when it matters. I'm just going to pull Week 4 out of my ass and say let's wait until Week 4 before we start saying he was overrated last year or is in a sophomore slump. He'll bounce back though of that I'm very confident.

    • Sounds like from Jeremy's info he's not a big target for us. Which is a shame to me because he reminds me so much of Greg Hardy on the field and would step in to be our best DE since Hardy left from day 1 and it wouldn't be close. Nothing like Hardy off the field, and not as crazy as him on the field (don't think he'll be telling Ryan to get off his field ever) but his play is just so similar. Dominant against the run, a more than capable and improving pass rusher despite limited athleticism, and can kick inside or out and even drop back in coverage. Would love to get him at 8 if Thomas, Adams and Fournette are gone, but doesn't seem like it's in the cards. I could honestly see him going top 5 though.    Obviously not realistically possible but in this draft I see two DEs who remind me a lot of CJ and Hardy. Solomon Thomas and Derek Barnett. If there were any way, even trading next year's first and second, whatever, I'd try to get both of these guys. We'd be absolutely set on the DL for years and our front 7 would be even more dominant than it was in 2013. And with the young improving pieces in the secondary, and vets like Peppers and CJ still here at DE too we could build a defense with Wilks that could easily be the best we've ever seen and possibly one of the best in league history. That's my dream scenario and one that isn't impossible but not realistic. Theoretically Thomas could fall to us at 8 and Barnett could be sitting there in the early to mid teens. I would trade next year's first and a second this year to get Barnett in the teens in that scenario. DE, arguably our biggest need on the team right now, would be set for years.
    • Agree with experience in the SEC, but with the dept at DL and rotation of KK or Butler at DE I'm less worried more so than things on offensive side. Only  trade up if we get offensive player with 8 first.
