Bright side is we have the best backfield in the NFL. Right? If Stewart goes down we can just pound it down their throats with Williams and Tolbert. We take great pride in investing their more than any team in the NFL per Hurney......Not sure what we were thinking going in to the season with him as a starter. You cannot compete in the NFL when you have so many positions filled with fringe NFL players.

Because if he is in the box, they shouldn't have been making all those plays underneath or 3-4 yards a pop on runs.Theyre safe ass offense never even went deep or attacked our safeties at all, how can you guys really judge how nakamura played?
Ever since Minter retired, we have lacked a physical presence at safety, and our defense is softer for it.

Holy poo you made a pretty good argument. After reading this I'm not too upset with our defense.I dont get it, the db's suck and the safety sucks, yet Josh Freeman only passed for 134 yards and 1 TD. most of which came in the first half. This is ridiculous. Secondary played a very nice game. Exactly wtf do u guys want?

Barron was off the board and Carolina had him rated ahead of Luke. So they couldn't of drafted him....they would of had to trade up and given up picks. Even then they would of had to find a trading partner.
So no, it isn't fair to say they could of drafted him
i said i WISH we could have

Martin comes up with big hits at times on special teams. It'll be interesting to see if he wins his position back.
I'm just tired of the days of playing zone coverage while giving up so much cushion. Our D looked so much better when we manned up on everyone.
I am a Sherrod Martin fan and really was not happy to see 43 starting at safety in his place. Martin IS a much better player than Nakurmara from everything I've seen. I'd rather have 43 take Godfrey's place but that's just me.

I know, but as long as the safeties aren't sticking out like a sore thumb like last year, can't complain about too much, no big plays given up
I saw some sore thumbs yesterday that bothered me.. huge gaps in the zone is just as bad as getting burned deep, IMO..
Godfrey did make a nice play early in the game.. I still need to go back and watch it all again..

Martin also got 24 carries for 95 yards.. Freeman was 16/24 times which is typical for a run first team managing the clock.. They had nearly 15 minutes more Time of Possession than us controlling the ball nearly 40 minutes..
Looking at things entirely, saying Josh Freeman only had 134 yards doesn't imply our safeties were fine..

The reason Nakamura is starting on this team and will be all year is because of Jerry Richardson. He blatantly called out Sherod Martin in an exclusive interview with Tom Sorensen and the Observer last year, when Sorensen asked him what he thought of Martin, Richardson responded with he is #23 and He plays safety that's about all I have to say about him. LOL So since your owner dislikes a player your GM goes out and signs a less talented player (Nakamura) to replace said player (Martin). So truth be told just like all of us on the Huddle already knew Richardson does have a major say in personel decisions despite what he says, or what type of hands off owner image he wants to portray! I love JR, but when it comes to personel he is the oppisiotte crapier version of Jerry Jones as an owner. Instead of making dumb decisions to try and make his team better, he makes selfish decisions because he holds vendetta's against certain players for dumb reasons making our team worse in the process. The best ownerss always have been and always will be the ones that let their GM's make personel decisions and there coaches coach (With maybe Bllicheat up in New England being the one major hall of fame exception)!
you very well could be right, but I find it fascinating how people can fabricate an entire short-story based on a few tidbits of information and a vast amount of assumptions..
