I'd maybe rent an RV for a few weeks and drive it around staying in various parking lots around town to get a feel of different areas.

I plan on coming to Charlotte for a week next year during season. Check out the communities for a week and soak up a game on a Sunday. As long as I have a list of the places, homes, communities, schools, etc. lined up to visit I think I will be ok.

why in God's name would you walk to the one on S Blvd

ok..maybe I missed it...but where's this dude planning on working?? I'd probably move further south if I didn't work in Dilworth but I refuse to commute more than I do now. If I lived in Wedding/Matthews I'd fuging shoot myself if I had to make that commute every day. That's just me though..I hate sitting in a fuging car staring at the bumper in front of me

I have a small business here in Los Angeles and I'm expanding to the East Coast so Charlotte was my natural choice. My work will focus around the Mecklenberg County Court house in Downtown so that Is why I was asking about the traffic to and from.

As for traffic, If I could not drive in it I would prefer not to but it takes me 30 minutes to go 10 miles from where I live to my office. I would imagine traffic will probably be the same?

gotcha...my drive now is 10 miles and it takes me 25-30 min..

If you're going to be working downtown..moving way the fug out to Matthews/Mint Hill will be more of a commute than you probably want...485 fuging sucks..I'd stick to Dilworth, Madison Park, Southpark, Plaza Midwood areas.. those areas still have yards for your kids to run around in..

this is my opinion anyways..It would take a lot of money for me to move out that way

My Grandmother, before she died two years ago, had a house in the Hidden Valley area off of Sugar Creek.......I wouldn't recommend that area.

From the Weddington/Matthews area, I would NEVER go 485. Takes about 35 min down Providence Rd.

That side of town is decent. There are a lot of new subdivisions over that way that are nice. They're not Weddington/Lake Norman area nice, but they're solid. There are some older and less affluent neighborhoods not too far from there too, but they're not poverty stricken areas either.

Rocky River High School is probably the newest HS in the school district and is fairly good from what I've heard.

The demographics of that area are very mixed.

45% White, 45% black, 3% Asian, 2% mixed, 5% other.

Household Income Levels
Less than $30,000 4,118 (28%) $30,000 to $74,999 7,623 (51%) $75,000 to $149,999 2,781 (19%) $150,000 or More 337 (2%)

If you'll be working downtown and have half a mil to spend on a house, there's absolutely no conceivable reason to live anywhere south of the South Park area.

Just because I can afford that much doesn't mean I want to pay that much. What I pay here in California is ridiculous for what I can get in Charlotte. Looking at the Charlotte houses makes me just want to move there right away.

With that said I think the factors ultimately for me are the distance/time to and from Downtown and also obviously the neighborhood.

Can someone tell me if this neighborhood is any good?

A house like this in Pasadena would fetch for 750,000 - 1,000,000. If I can get this house for 250k, that is a steal.

Half of that neighborhood is in a flood plane. Beware. edit: Yeah, see that creek in the backyard? It'll flood. I was looking on that same street 2 years ago.

Good area though. I live in Cotswold and love it. I agree with Husker, unless you're specifically looking to live in the suburbs.
