the same amount of interceptions on less passing attempts. that means he's tracking worse than last season.

Meh, not so much worse. Again, his passing attempt numbers are right in line with his season totals last year. You can look at his ints on a case by case basis and argue that you shouldn't hold a few of them against him based on circumstances. But I'm not going down that road. If you need to feel like Cam has regressed as a passer to help you sleep at night, by all means go ahead. I just don't think that it's true and the majority of numbers back up the opposite opinion as well.

There's plenty more, have a read: http://www.thebiglea...our-perception/

Awesome find DP... I think it shows anyone who says he's slumping either hasn't watched the games or is just an outright idiot. And if Chud didn't go retard in the Giants game, Cam wouldn't have 5 INTs either.

In regards to the pass attempts, I'm too lazy to look, but I suspect that could have something to do with the defense, as unbelievable as it sounds, being more stout and also I'm willing to bet the opponents avg. starting field position is much more in our favor at this point this season than it was last season. Just guessing...

Very encouraging that his comp. % is up as well as the YPA. He doesn't get enough credit from most media and fans for being the only reason we are even competitive.

Actually, outside of yardage totals, he's better in every major statistical category than he was last year.

That's a totally inaccurate statement. I'm not a Cam hater nor do I want to do the research to prove you wrong at the expense of making our QB look weaker... But they are 3 Major categories that's were left off that list that he's worse in. I'm not in the business of making our Franchise QB look bad. I'd much rather boost him up. It was worth noting that while stats are stats and the stats provided in OP are accurate. I thought it was interesting that 3 in particular we're left off that list. Not gonna talk about this anymore because I don't like where this is headed.

Go Cam, and Go Panthers

Uh huh. Amazingly effective argument strategy, I must say.

One of the issues here is that you can't evaluate one stat like interceptions in the context of 56 fewer pass attempts and say he doing worse (which is accurate) and then discuss total yards which is a quantity stat without using the same context. Sure his total yards are down but when you use the 56 fewer passes in context the result shows a big improvement. The quality stat which is germaine is yards per attempt which clearly shows Newton is doing better than last year. In fact he leads the league in that category by a wide margin.

If you look at TD/Int ration he is down compared to last year 1.0 versus .8 based on one fewer touchdown pass. But if you look at TDs as a function of attempts he is actually doing better. I TD for every 33 attempts versus this year 1 TD for every 27 attempts.

Clear sophomore slump? Only the uneducated statistician who doesn't understand the difference between quantity and quality stats would say that.

if he continues his pace and has the same amount of passing attempts this season as last, he will have 25 interceptions.

he had 17 last season.

never said he has regressed...just correcting your nuthugging statement about him being better in every statistical category outside of yardage.

A pointless simple way to put it:

Matt Cassel
Ron Mexico
Jay Cutler
Tony Romo
Sanchez
...and those two sh*tty rookies

are the other QBs with more ints than tds at this point. I'm only saying, consider that group and where you view Cam's level at.

All victims of passing in impossible circumstances as well, except maybe Vick, who came out the gate tossing picks in manageable situations.

The majority of Cutler and Romo's picks came in the same fashion as Cam's... When they were already down by a significant margin and/or in ridiculous down/distance circumstances. Cassel has been a victim of this as well because the Chiefs keep finding themselves behind early. Don't really have a reason for Sanchez. And I'm not a fan of any guy on that list in particular aside from maybe Vick...

IIRC, Romo is the all-time leader in regular season passer rating, so, essentially, I'm saying picks happen and in this group, including Cam, it's a result of poor decisions by the coaching staffs they play for.

in the end, no one is going to remember wether or not an interception was the qb's fault.

Cams #`s and our record are nearly identical to where he was this time last year. The only thing he's really slumping in is favorable media coverage. He had a lot more of that last year. Thru 4 games he's got over 1,000 yards which has him on pace for 4,000 again.

Good point, but I had hoped a year and an entire off season would bring improvement, not the same.
