We could do this for every year - but let's take a look at their 2009 draft (a fair comparison as 4 years in the league is usually enough to see who cuts it vs. who doesn't)

1. Brian Cushing - starter
2. Connor Barwin - starter
3. Antoine Caldwell - starter
4. Glover Quin - starter
4. Anthony Hill - no longer with the team
5. James Casey - starter
6. Brice McCain - nickel corner
7. Troy Nolan - 3rd string

2. Everette Brown - colossal bust, no longer in the league
2. Sherrod Martin - currently in a rotation with the worst starting safety in football
3. Corvey Irvin - no longer in the league
4. Mike Goodson - decent player who is now a backup for the raiders
4. Tony Fiametta - cut by the panthers, is barely still in the league
5. Duke Robinson - no longer in the league
7. Captain Munnerlyn - nickel corner, occasional starter, and sadly the best player we got in this draft

I suppose I could have included Jeff Otah as part of this class since we gave up a first rounder in 09' to get him, but that isn't going to make the picture any prettier.

They spend money wisely in FA, and they've done pretty well for themselves in the past 3 drafts

In that 2011 draft.

1. #1 Cam Newton
2. No draft pick
3. #65 Terell Mclain- Cut this year.
3. #97 Sione Fua- Still on the team.
4.#98 Brandon Hogan- Still on the team but has been injured since he been drafted.
5.#132 Keloaha Pilares- Still on the team and other Cam has been the most productive.
6.#166 Lawrence Wilson- Cut from the team last year.
7.#244 Lee Zimba- Practice squad.

Can I get Houston's compare to this?

Good DC and OC for sure. Same with ATL this year. It all starts with coaching.

I think it's tough to evaluate classes based upon only 21 games, but here you go

1. JJ Watt - absolute stud
2. Brooks Reed - solid starter
2. Brandon Harris - 3rd string DB
4. Roc Carmichael - 3rd string DB
5. Shiloh Keoh - 2nd string safety
5. T.J. Yates - 2nd string QB
7. Derek Newton - starting right tackle on one of the best o-lines in the league
7. Cheta Ozuguwu - now plays for the bears, but he was the last pick in the entire draft

-Excellent coaching
-6 Years of building
-Schaub is now a seasoned vet
-Home run threat in Andre Johnson
-Great RB tandem with a star back and a great backup (dime a dozen)
-Defense is insane with serious playmakers at almost every position
-Willing to let players go if they won't stay for a reasonable price (Mario Williams) thus allowing them to add talent elsewhere on the team rather than getting bogged down in cap hell with no room to add serious free agents

Remember that it took Kubiak 6 years to make the playoffs. I'm not defending the current staff or wanting that but how many people here would be happy to wait that long?

Wade Philipps turned that defense around.

Kubiak was smart enough to hire Wade to do what he does best.

Shame our staff could not think of that....oh wait....

The 09 draft is by far one of Hurneys worst.

Y'all act like this happened over night.

For the past 3-4 years we've heard about the Texans and it could be their year.

how do we know it was excellent coaching? at what point was it apparent they had it? you sure couldn't tell by the record until last year.

They took their time to build through the draft and when time was they was active in FA. The money to spend i FA came from striking gold in the draft and having the guts to let your stars walk when time is right and the money is to big (Mario Williams)

Rick Smith is on of the best if not THE best GM in football.

Oh and Watt is by far the best defensive player this year, holy hell that dude is wild.
