Why not? There's a first for everything, I believe it would work out for both parties. Rivera doesn't have to move again, and we don't have to look for another DC.

You can't demote a HC dude. That's crazy talk. You have to fire a guy for a fresh start and a clear new leader for the team. It would create an identity crisis for the team and players.

I think it could work. The only thing would be whether or not Rivera would accept. If he accepts, it would work out perfectly. Of course all of this is just ideas we are talking on, just something to throw out there.

We already have an identity crisis, and it's because Rivera is not a head coach. Rivera would make the best decision of his life if we offered him DC position, because no one would make him a HC after this season. The best he could hope for is DC. Why not take the job if it's there, won't have to move or interview with another team. I'm looking at it from Rivera's perspective by the way.

You are the only person who thinks that demoting the HC to the DC and bringing in a new HC would work.

When a HC is brought in he wants to bring in his own guys that can help implement his system and philosophies.

If the Panthers brought in a new HC - do you think he would honestly consider the move without being able to bring in one of the most important positions with him? Come on dude.

With all that taken in consideration, if Rivera would accept the position, it would work. Rivera is no scrub when it comes to defense, he's been top notch in the past. Any HC candidate would be stupid not to consider having Rivera around, if he was willing to be DC. The reason why our defense stinks so much, is because our players stink. Our safeties can't tackle, we only have one decent corner, and half our linebackers (the strong part of our defense) are coming back from injury. If Rivera would accept, he's definitely a top notch DC. (So all of what you're saying is taken into consideration. Unless we signed a defensive minded coach, then your statement would be valid)

You don't demote hc.

Thats one thing I never understood. Instead of firing HCs why dont GMs just put them back at the coordinator position where they flourished? I mean look at Jack Del Rio, its not like he got another HC gig elsewhere, he went to Denver to be a defensive coordinator. Is it some unwritten rule or something that you dont move a HC into a offensive/defensive coordinator position within the same organazation? Kind of like, you never drop the soap in jail. I mean you cant really say its a pride thing because they are going to be a coordinator anyway. Why not just with the same team you already know as HC? Never understood that

Would love to have Gruden but I would miss him on MNF, I really enjoy his commentary during the games.

In Madden, it would work. In reality, it would create a wonky locker room dynamic with the former HC still on board, but in a lesser role.
