Pointing out we have Stewart, Williams, Tolbert in a list....doesn't actually tilt the talent scale like many suggests.

We are thin or weak at multiple key areas.

And if a guy like Clowney was available you draft him no matter who your DEs are.

I don't think we are "thin or weak at multiple key areas" either. I think we could upgrade the S position. Other than that I like our team. A strong to great FS would help settle the whole D down.

I have said repeatedly that talent is what wins games. Why would I pass on talent? Clowney or Gholston, I would take either.

The reality of that Super Bowl run is it was also partly on the talent of Steve Smith, Morgan, Jenkins from the Siefert era which ironically is the reason Hurney got the job anyway and Muhammed and a few holders from Capers.

The Panthers have not had a decent DT or WR since.

Hurney has gotten just about all the mileage he can out of our Super Bowl run, now almost a decade ago. Without that event, I feel sure he would no longer be part of the Panthers organization.

It is interesting that he has benefited greatly from several key players drafted prior to his time and has repeatedly failed to find anyone comparable to replace those individuals during his extended time in charge.

Hey, I agree that the game right now has a lot of passing. And defenses are changing to keep up. Everyone has to be faster. Not bigger, just faster to be able to cover. The only big guys left on D are the tackles.

This is a double edged sword however. There are still good teams that can run the ball. Hell, even NE is running the ball.

But you can only run the ball on teams built to defend the pass. Just like it is a tad easier to pass the ball on teams that are built to stop the run. You almost have to give up one to stop the other. So most teams are going faster to help defend the bigger chunk getters. The pass is changing the game was a saying 60 years ago. And it still fits.

The Edwards boys have steadied our Line. Old pros are still welcomed. If your youth is lacking, you go old. We draft DTs, we just can't seem to develop them, so we rent them.

Not sure why the hate for our D-line? Other than Fua, I am happy right now. We have been really disruptive so far.

I'm beyond trying to predict what this team will do. After the ATL game it looked like we could hang with the best of them. After the Seattle game, it looks like we might be lucky enough to get a desirable pick in the draft and be able to trade down to restock our lines and secondary.

And I agree we're thin at multiple key areas, notably:

the secondary (HAVE to find an NFL caliber FS, SS could use an upgrade but is the 2nd least problematic spot in our secondary right now, CB1 is gravy...for a few more years, CB2 shows promise but isn't helping us right now),

DL (I still think Dwan can be a solid starter for us for a while yet but Ron will need a replacement after THIS year, at the very least someone to rotate with him and be ready to take over after next year, DE looks ok but you can always use more pass rushers),

OL (Gross will need to be grooming a replacement real soon, RG needs fixing, need better depth in my opinion)

WR (what I said about Gross - same thing with Smitty, Lafell looks fine as WR2, no one else has stepped up yet)

Biggest issue seems to be Chud and his failure to adjust back to the formations and postion he put players in last year vs this year

well considering that we have a knack for making poor QB's look like Pro Bowlers and a history of looking awesome once we're eliminated, I give it 80% that we win 4 more games.

They will make some kind of small run at the end of the season and everyone will be excited about all of our new talent and the staff and management will feel no need to make any serious effort at improving the roster and then we will trade more future draft picks on some mediocre to downright bad undersized no name player. A member of the one of the lines will be let go and will be replaced with someone with the last name of Williams. Rivera and Hurney will look at each other shrug and ask each other "Are we missing something?" because they think everything is just great.
