I wish there was still negative rep to spread - Im tired of this guy. He obviously feels and attempts to turn anyone who sees this team through non rose colered glasses into a bad person . He makes constant excuses for the sorry state of the Carolina Panthers, and attempts to turn those blind fools who refuse to accept facts into martyrs of some sort. I got to wonder who is signing his paychecks.

It is irritating to see

Just like when someone overreacts and posts a thread stating we should replace Cam

I don't mind fans trying to be optimistic, but the blind optimism should have stopped with Jake Delhomme back in 2008-2009. So just like posters who are lampooned if they feel like they are fed up with Steve Smith's attitude or want to reiterate for the 12th time that they feel Hurney should be fired, I will call out claims I feel are outrageous from time to time.

gotcha. just seems people (including myself) take this stuff too seriously, esp. when it comes to throwing around insults at each other because they don't view things the way that i do or whatever.

i get just as irritated, but i get more irritated at myself for getting irritated at anything that goes on in here because it's just not that important. i do find it funny, tho, that people would get pissy about people being too positive and optimistic (not talking about you, btw). it almost wants me to act more like the blind homer i get accused of being just to see how much they'll bitch about it and even use me as the poster boy for homers or something. they sure wouldn't have said that a couple years ago when i was bitching about fox and jake and deshaun foster and hurney and even kasay.

We can try to spin our record however we want, but the fact remains is that we're 1-4. Not one play away from [insert this record], but 1-4.

Our next four games coming out of the bye week will be against
Cowgirls(2-2)
Bears(4-1)
Redskins(2-3)
Broncos(2-3)

There is a good chance the Cowgirls will lose to the Ravens, Redskins will lose to Vikings, and the Broncos will lose to the Chargers tomorrow. Best case scenario, I feel like we can win the next 3 out of 4 games while these teams are reeling themselves..maybe gain some momentum. But, I just have a sinking feeling that Dallas's defense will frustrate us and their offense will do enough to win via Seattle..and then the Bears game will be ugly...

agreed with all that. whatever it was that cost this team games, the result still stays the same...1-4. i think too much hinges on that dallas game. it shouldn't, but it does. i can see the morale of this team tanking if they don't come firing on all cylinders and just coasting thru the rest of the season.

First you defend the coaching by saying how your aren't sure how "coaching is to blame". Then, you highlight Riveria's inexperience, Chud insistence on running the option and a "better coaching strategy on both sides of the ball". YES, our GM is the worst in the NFL, but the coaching IS to blame. McDumbass refused to adjust the defense during the Giants game, Chud refuses to adjust his schemes as well and Rivera is the man in charge of fixing these issues as well as the person responsible for making questionable game management decisions. I could list many more examples but the bottom line is... Marty is horrible and coaching is our biggest problem!

That isnt what we have as our number 1 qb. We have a younger, larger, slower running version of M Vick.

Got to disagree with this. From what I can tell, Cam has a much better work ethic than Vick. Cam is still a young QB. Our "pro ready" QB was Clausen. Cam has had a huge learning curve, and I think has done pretty well. I do believe he will get better and better.

But... the realists are saying the opposite. That Cam has already hit his ceiling. He is never going to get better. It is all his fault. Well, him and Hurney, Chud, Rivera, McD, the water boy. Anyone connected with the Panthers is in need of firing.

It is so bad that any sign of optimism is viewed as just plain ol stupid. Personally, I love it. But then again, after 20+ years of marriage, this board is just so much fluff. Funny to be sure, but nothing to get worked up over.

Some of us are still excited about this team. And no one will dent that enthusiasm. Even the haterz with there the sky has already fallen drivel.

If we beat the cowgirls, some will still find numerous griping points. Nothing will make them happy. Sad. To me, the winning will start soon. I am not going to stop thinking this. Well... almost nothing will dampen my giddy. Losing Cam would give me pause, but short of that, my expectations are still through the roof.

All QBs face adversity, every last one of them, even eventually great ones, Unitas was cut at the beginning of his career and let go at the end, Young, Montana, and Farve. McNabb in his prime in Philly, booed all the time.

Press was pretty brutal to Bradsaw in his day and Eli Manning in his.

It's up to Newton as he plays the game and the press writes about the game and we read about it. The later two opinions don't matter.

To start....for you non readers, who like to write tldr....just skip to the last 2 paragraphs. I don't understand why some like to insult thoughtful posters who have a lot to say with that remark.

I have not posted in a few days. (I am sure you have missed me. ) 2 reasons: Sometimes, when things are painful...I need some time. Also...I needed to gather my thoughts and figure out where I am with all this. A guy at work always talks Panthers with me. When he came in Monday and looked at me...I said...."I don't want to talk about it." A few minutes later he started to talk about the Panthers...I stopped him. He asked when we could talk about it. I told him I did not know.
They can tackle but they think if they use their shoulder they can spear the ball loose or just destroy the ball carrier. They are trying to make a big play and end up looking stupid
Do not think it was because I do not care. It is because I care too much. I know that does not separate me from most of you...especially PSL owners. I would be one of you if I could....and still hope to be.

Some random thoughts:

Panthers are 1-4. With the elimination of just a few mistakes....they could be 4-1.

Coaching is the popular blame. Not sure how coaching is blamed for dropped passes, some of the fumbles, poor tackling, and a QB skipping a pass to an open receiver in the endzone?

Regarding poor tackling ( and the general poor fundamentals). How do players get to the NFL and not know how to tackle???? I mean they were the best of the high school players, the best of the college players, and the few who made it to the NFL? I do not understand why an NFL coach has to teach defenders how to tackle? I understand the game is different, bigger, stronger, faster....but what did these guys do in practice? And we are not talking about all rookies.

That being said, except for the Giants game...the D has not been that bad.

I agree to those who have questioned some of Chud's calls. He has gotten too cute and out-thought himself. This team should have an identity...and it should be running the damn ball...and a QB who can punish you when you focus on stopping that. I think Chud thought he be could be a genius with his boy toy Cam. He focused on candy when he had in fact had the ingredients for health.

So then, that leads us to Rivera and Hurney. Thought the interview by Sorenson was interesting Hurney does not want to be seen in public. He said not because of negative comments, said fans were nice (not sure about that) but basically...and I am paraphrasing and taking a leap... because he was ashamed. So, got to wonder what Hurney is saying to Rivera these days. There has be a lot of pressure on Hurney...Richardson wants a SB win, with his health/heart issues...there must be pressure to get this done........ soon.

So Rivera. Initially....liked what he had to say...and his attitude. Yet he has made some new coach mistakes. So...ok for a new guy who has never been a HC. But I expect the learning curve to accelerate What I hate the most recently from Rivera is "this team is learning how to win." (Of course also not thrilled with the record this season. ) These players are professionals...there are a lot of vets. I do not have a tolerance for this learning curve. Last year, maybe. I guess the good side is Rivera does not publicly throw players under the bus. For the record...his stoic appearance is not an issue for me. Results are.

So, where am I today....10-11-12. The team had a 10 day break between the Giants and the Falcons. There was improvement, but a disappointing loss. This bye week, Rivera said they were first going to review the first 5 games. His ability to assess the Panthers performance in these games and make adjustments is crucial. Perhaps Rivera has given too much trust in his coordinators. If that is true...now is the time to correct. I did read that Rivera said that sometimes Cam was waiting for the long ball to open up when he should have thrown short. [Should have been dealt with in coaching before this.] We all know that. Rivera's abilities as an evaluator and then a leader are on the radar. I feel for him, because there are some individual mistakes that may have cost games, that I cannot attribute to coaching mistakes. But, he is the man. And, with a better coaching strategy on both sides of the ball, this team would not be 1-4.

I believe the Cowboys game will tell us a lot about Rivera. So, for me, there is 1 more game. I am hoping for a great game...for the players, Rivera, Richardson, and all of us.

disagree...both need to get their crap together now. both are guilty of screwing up. both are costing games.

Yeah, and you are being real objective....

Considering almost all your "ideal" QBs you are referring to are veteran players. Tom Brady couldn't do what he does today 21 games into his NFL career, neither could Eli, Rodgers, etc.

So yeah we don't have that right now....but the guys you are referring to weren't that either at this point.

And Cam isn't comparable to Vick now or early in his career. Always been a lazy comparison.

I'd like to add some thoughts of my own rather than creating my own thread...

I'd rather be a Panthers fan right now than a Ravens fan... That's right, I'll take our 1-4 to their 5-1

What looked to be a certain Superbowl run has now turned into utter horror due to the fact that they've been decimated by injuries.

On our hands... We're 1-4 and have nowhere to go but up... Or worse. I'd much rather not have any expectations than the ones they had and how quickly their aspirations were taken from them.... I'd hate to be a Ravens fan saying... "What if?"

There once was a time when rookie QB's rode the pine for awhile, carrying that clipboard, and - if nothing else - saw what it was to act and lead like a starting QB. Brady, E Manning, Rogers, Phillips, Schaub, Romo did not start their 1st year. Just in the last 3 years have more rookie QB's started from the 1st game. And, as ladypanther says, there is a learning curve and that curve is more steep for some than for others. Some, such as J Russell or Young, never get to the top of that curve. More than ever it takes patience of everyone involved. It's not Madden, it's not FF. It's a game played by men one day a week for 16 weeks. Period. That's one day to see if what you changed will pan out, if what you practiced all week will work, if what you saw on film really happens.

How I feel is in my control and I'm at a place of optimistic patience. lol it may be eternal lol but it is my place.
