In some ways I understand it. Europe went through several world wars and managed to drag other countries into most of them between 1750 and 1945. They have managed to stay relatively peaceful since the end of WWII. Of course, the presence of large US and Soviet armies, nuclear arsenals, and the loss of their overseas empires played a big role in that peace. We will just call it Pax Americana.
