Is Greg Olson overated by Panther fans?

Olsen doesn't have the upper body strength to be a good blocker. The best he can do is get in the way. He does decent against corners if the ball is thrown. He does get blown-up while run blocking.

I must overrate him, because to me he looks like a rich mans Hernandez who should be getting huge numbers of targets and putting up ridiculous stats. Yet ultimately he performs more like a typical NFL starting TE. Considering how bad our other receiving options are, I don't get why he isn't the feature player in the passing game. I guess that's pretty much the definition of overrating him.

No. He's not a solid blocker but he's easily the second best receiver on the team, has shown ability to get open. The offense just misuses him. He could put up Graham/Gronk type numbers in the right system.

Being the 2nd best target on a team does not really mean anything. Someone has to be the best target on the Cleveland Browns. Doesn't mean they are great.

I don't think he is over rated, I think he is under used.

Olsen is not overrated. His blocking is pedestrian but his route running and hands make up for it.

Things have been very different this season, we aren't running the same plays and when Olsen is open, Cam simply doesn't get him the ball.

Rivera said himself that Olsen could be Gronk/Graham level this season, but we just aren't getting him the ball.

DO NOT forget about what he is going through with his family either. Not even Mike Ditka could go out and dominate if he was going through that...

it all depends on what you were looking for. i was more interested in him as a receiver than anything, in which case he deserves to be compared to the likes of the best pass catching TEs in the league.

it was a mistake, tho, to let shockey go because he's more of a complete TE and offered one more tough target for cam to get the ball to. the 2 TE game was working and it made no sense to pass that by. adding tolbert was the right thing to do. expecting him to replace shockey wasn't.

the offense was better with olsen and shockey together. still, that takes nothing away from olsen as a receiver.
