Well damn, you could use that same argument to say that a flat percentage isnt fair either because, "well now that I got a raise I have to pay more in taxes"

Is an absolute flat tax (everyone pays the same dollar amount) is the only acceptable solution in your mind?

Same % per dollar earned. It's not that hard to understand.

Why do people only talk about fairness in income tax and ignore all the other taxes. Someone making 50k is usually paying far more % wise of their income in sales tax,gas tax, property tax, payroll taxes, etc than someone making 250k+. Is that fair?

Income tax is mandatory if you earn an income.

You don't have to drive no matter how much you make.

You don't have own a home no matter how much you make.

You don't have to buy new things no matter how much you make.

You can't avoid income taxes if you make an income.

Just because it is simple doesnt make it any less arbitrary

Since we're making unrealistic claims, you don't have to make more money that raises you to a higher tax bracket. In fact you could make so little money you don't have to pay income tax. Then you can just never buy anything new or a house or car and stop paying taxes altogether!

http://votesmart.org/voteeasy/

Go this site..and try your best to answer each question regarding some of the major issues at hand and see which candidate you match up with best.

I am not sure the source of the site, and the credibility. It has been passed around the university here to help young folk who are not quite sure who to vote for.

I am not saying you are young or even need this site. But it might be an interesting start to see the basics.

Rocky Anderson or Obama apparently.
