If my memory serves me the Huddle was pretty happy with hiring Rivera.Thats the chance you make when hiring a OC or DC.

The reason for this is because everybody wanted Harbaugh and when we found out we wont be able to get him we all settled for the next best thing which we thought was Rivera. When owners and general managers make decision likes these they always hope for the best. This situation that we are in now is not the best and their is a good chance Rivera will be done coaching the Panthers.

Well, if JR didn't want Rivera and hired him anyways, then shame on him.

I have a hard time buying that an owner who's concerned about his health and desperately wants his team to win a Super Bowl signed off on a head coach he didn't believe in. And then later on fired the GM he did believe in and kept that coach in whom he didn't.

Mortensen's Panther tidbits have always been very hit or miss.

It doesn't mean he hated Rivera, he likely was just not as impressed with him as Hurney was. I would want the owner to trust the judgement of his GM. If he does not than you problem is the GM.

I want our new GM to make all football decisions, not Mr Richardson.

Lots of rumors flying around. No one knows why Hurney was fired is my guess.

When I said very smart, I meant as a coach, and he is very smart. That is the reason he was hired. He built a super bowl winning defense and then to the chargers to once again build the NFLs best defense. Rivera is very smart when it coems to being a defensive cordinator is perhaps what I should have typed.

As a head coach, I do not understand any of his calls. This Sunday, always giving them the ball at midfield. I understand keeping it away from a dangerous returner but its pushing it a bit much punting it six yards and never placing any faith in your ST.

I see that point. I agree. He seems to be reacting instead of attacking--more motivated by fear than by winning.

To make it even more baffling, when we got the ball, they called a quick out to the sideline for 5 yards. So explain to me the purpose for that play. If RR had no intention of going for the field goal, why throw the out? To get additional yards for a hail mary pass that sailed clear through the end zone? No part of that sequence makes sense.

He should have just taken the knee. Frankly, it would have made more sense than what we actually did.

We needed that five yards so his pass could get over the cross bar. Seriously, I bet other teams laugh during film sessions before playing us.

The GM hires the head coach, it's supposed to be up to the owner to sign off on everything. Maybe just maybe Hurney wasn't as "handcuffed" as some people think.

I think it would be very safe to assume it's because the team sucks.

By chance I really believe this could be the case. I just don't know though, I just feel Richardson has to have the final say on whether he wanted Rivera or not.
