Sunday was a great step forward for the Panthers. Newton's weird attitude was still evident on the field, but was markedly improved in the presser. By any objective measure, he did not play great or even good football, though. He wasn't downright brutal and the Panthers are getting to the point where they can win games with a pedestrian quarterback. A closer look at Carolina's final drive:

1st and 10 at CAR 20 D.Williams left end to CAR 21 for 1 yard (N.Collins). 2nd and 9 at CAR 21 (Shotgun) C.Newton pass incomplete short middle to S.Smith [I.Idonije]. PENALTY on CHI-I.Idonije, Roughing the Passer, 15 yards, enforced at CAR 21 - No Play. 1st and 10 at CAR 36 C.Newton pass short right to G.Barnidge pushed ob at CAR 43 for 7 yards (L.Briggs). 2nd and 3 at CAR 43 J.Stewart left tackle to CAR 45 for 2 yards (C.Tillman). 3rd and 1 at CAR 45 C.Newton right end pushed ob at CHI 39 for 16 yards (C.Tillman). 1st and 10 at CHI 39 D.Williams left guard to CHI 31 for 8 yards (I.Idonije; C.Conte). 2nd and 2 at CHI 31 (No Huddle) D.Williams left tackle to CHI 32 for -1 yards (I.Idonije). 3rd and 3 at CHI 32 (Shotgun) M.Tolbert right guard to CHI 29 for 3 yards (H.Melton). 1st and 10 at CHI 29 (Shotgun) J.Stewart left guard to CHI 27 for 2 yards (C.Conte). Timeout #2 by CHI at 02:43. 2nd and 8 at CHI 27 C.Newton pass incomplete deep left to S.Smith. 3rd and 8 at CHI 27 (Shotgun) C.Newton pass incomplete short right. 4th and 8 at CHI 27 (Field Goal formation) J.Medlock 45 yard field goal is GOOD, Center-J.Jansen, Holder-B.Nortman.

I don't know about Newton "marching the Panthers down the field", though.
He was 1 of 3 for 7 yards on the drive. Everything else was on the ground.
The biggest play of the drive was his 16 yard bootleg on 3rd and 1 on a fantastic call by "complete idiot" OC Chudzinski.
Pretty good drive by the worst offensive line in the universe if you ask me.

Sorry about the copy and paste job on the play by play...

I see you trollin...........I hatin

fug Whitlock. Like I said before this is the same fat bastard that said Lebron would never win a ring because he was raised in a single family home. This is the same fool that said Serena was lazy and fat yet she is the most dominate womens tennis player in the world and the most dominate female tennis player over the last 10 years. This is the same person that wrote an article saying that he had a great time in the bars and strip clubs when he was hanging out during the NBA all-star game that was in Nevada. Only to turn around 24 to 48 hours later and write an article stating that he was scared for his life in Nevada during the all star game and that the game needed to be moved to Europe. This is the same fool that that wrote multiple articles saying that rap music is destroying kids minds but turns around and does a rap song with Tech 9.

Whitlock panders plan and simple. A fat version of uncle ruckus.

When Cam sees this is his team, not offense, not defense, not special teams, but the WHOLE Dang TEAM, he stands up and lives and dies with them. Where is the swag, the confidence, the poise under fire??? I been here since Panthers started and Cam Newton got me excited for what could be!!!
Its time,' If you want to be the Man you got to Beat the Man'!!! Watch a few Ric Flair matches and light a fire under this Panthers Team!!! The defense there for you now go help them.

Go Panthers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whitlock is a hack. He always has been and always will be.

I don't care if he agrees with everything I believe or nothing, doesn't stop him from being a hack.

Good stuff from Whitlock, agree 100% but the criticism of Cam's actions after the fumble is another example of people misunderstanding him... he jogged to the bench after the fumble because he was upset with himself.

Remember everybody saying that he needs to cool it on the celebrations even people on here? How ironic he gets criticized for not celebrating. I'm not sure I want to see him celebrating after a fumble.

I agree Cam needs to become the leader of this team...... but I am not sure that happens with a 2nd Yr QB that has so many Vets from previous regimes still on them. Usually it when a team is gutted and the rest of the roster pretty much started with the new QB. People keep blasting Cam for not taking the team over but how many 23rd old QB's would walk into a locker room and take over when you have Smith, D'Will, Stewart, Gross , Kalil, Beason, Davis, etc. Last year you had Shockey in there. It just doesnt happen as often as people think. Either the roster is gutted when the new QB is brought in so he can lead right away, or its several years later before the QB really moves into that leadership role. That is how I see it, at least.

Glad to see this post. I was thinking I was the only one who knew that Cam found no reason for celebration when he could have been thinking how he just squandered a scoring opportunity right at the goal line. Yes, we recovered the fumble, but he expects more of himself and I believe he felt he had just failed us yet again.

I was appalled at how quickly the FOX announcers called this out as if it was some crime against humanity. Fug these a-holes with their preconceived notions about Cam, and wait for the first sign of anything to bitch about.

It's all a matter of what you thought about Newton prior to that moment. People that don't watch the team everyday and most of the media had already bought into the brooding, self-absorbed persona, while most of us that follow the team daily see a different picture. So it was natural for them to think it was just Cam being ungrateful and self-centered.

When I saw it, my first thought was that he was so embarrassed that he would have crawled in a hole had one been nearby.

It won't change until the Panthers start to win, and then suddenly people will discover that he's maybe not as bad as they previously thought.

So much of this game is between your ears!!! Its what you think and what you cause other folks to think. He missed a chance to to raise the level of the game but he chose himself. His missed his chance to be Super Man, our good fortune was none of his own.
I watched the play several times and if DaBears recover that fumble he can really sulk. I'd still be patting Murphy's back!!
Quit the Stinkin Thinkin and we stop loosing in the last second of the game. What 3 I think . Its sad we got it all down pat but the thinking part!!! Got my fingers crossed!!!!

Go Panthers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Newton can do no right. The only way to silence your critics is to win.

Cam's press conference > The Panthers losing record

As long as Cam is humble contrite and docile in his press conferences, he is being a leader despite how much our team sucks. LMAO. We're gonna teach Cam HOW to lose. If anybody knows how to, we do!

That is how I feel. I was at the gym yesterday and this dude was like Cam has got to learn to lose. I yelled "no he does not." We need to learn to win, not the other way around. He has growing to do, but the press is determined to make it seem like he should be happier about losing.
