The only thing that keeps me from wanting Arians is his age. At 60, I really don't know how many years he has left for coaching so unless they have young coach in waiting.

Valid point. But even at 60, he may want to coach for 10 more years. There are a lot of older coaches in college.

The FO would definitely need to explore that if they had any interest in him.

Ugh please no. Just because Arians is winning against arguably the worst teams the NFL has to offer does not mean he's a worthy head coaching candidate.

It's not just that the Colts have been winning by slim margins; it's that they've been beating bad football teams by those slim margins. Look over the vanquished foes on that 7-1 stretch. It's a list that includes the Bills, Browns, Dolphins, Jaguars, Lions, and a pair of victories over the Titans. Indy's beating up on the league's poor, huddled masses! Those teams are a combined 24-46 in games that don't involve the Colts. They're awful. Indy's played four games against teams who are over .500, and in those games, they're 2-2 with the wins (over Green Bay and Minnesota) coming by a combined six points. They were outscored in the losses by 55 points. In all, pro-football-reference.com calculates that Indy's played the league's easiest schedule this year.

As well as:

So I posed that question to a league GM and asked what he thought, and what he thought is that he'd be interested in talking to Arians but probably wouldn't hire him.

He mentioned his age. Arians is 60. He mentioned his history, pointing out that Arians never was a "hot" candidate for head-coaching vacancies before. He mentioned that he sees him more as a capable assistant instead of a head coach. And he mentioned the situation Arians finds himself in now.

"That's Chuck Pagano's team," he said. "Everything was in place when Bruce took over, and he's steering it. Don't get me wrong. He's done a great job. But he's done a great job as a pinch-hitter, not as a full-time head coach. That said, he definitely deserves a chance to be interviewed."

We already hired the guy that was considered a capable, hell, a GREAT assistant, and a lotta good that's done us.

The whole issue with this forum is here in this thread. Talking about Bruce Arians as a possible replacement makes a lot of sense. he does have head coaching experience at the college level and a ton of experience as a coordinator. He is a guy who has largely been passed over and is now getting looks because he has done such a great job in Indy. Philly will surely give him a look.

Why would he be a possible fit for us?? He has been OC for Pittsburgh and JR is very high on Pittsburgh. Some people think Newton is the black athletic version of Ben Roethlisburger who Arians has coached.

Why would he not be a good fit? He is 60 years old and might not want to be around to build a team. He would likely prefer to coach for a team like Philly which is closer to family and friends. He might want to stay in Indy. He has not been an NFL head coach outside of this year in the NFL.

I would at least bring him in for a look if I let Rivera go.

here's a thought: present your idea to the huddle because it will totally make a difference in what actually happens

for all we know that GM might have the biggest hard on for Arians and is disinforming to lower his market value

Fine, I hope so, as long as whoever our GM is doesn't have a hard-on for him. I am firmly against Arians. Overrated.

Most of the responses in this thread are a microcosm of why the Huddle has gone to poo.

You can no longer have a rational discussion without the thread being hijacked by the pre pubescent and the mentally challenged.....not talking about you BWood.

Well I wanted to bump it with correct info, cuz if you google "Bruce Arians Panthers" this is in the top 5 of results. A google I think a lot of people will be doing a in a few weeks.
