yep. i remember that people talked a lot about his taletn and potentialm but the thing that had people doubting him was his drive. i heard people familiar with ole miss describing hardy as just a wierd guy.

it sounded to me like a high maintenence guy with a high upside that we ay have tapped into. the key is keeping him motivated and driven.

being weird doesn't imply he has no ambition or drive.. no one told him to gain weight to help improve his craft.. he did that. give him all the credit.

According to rotoworld he's not a FA till 2014....

Yeah, Spotrac says the same, we've got him next year too.

should be one of the new GM's top priorities...........

rewarding Hardy with a nice raise. Don't wait for the contact year.

A nice raise, yes. A Marty Hurney style contract, no.

We have to start offering reasonable contracts and make contingency plans for the player choosing to go elsewhere. We can't just keep throwing so much money that the competition is effectively eliminated.

that's just what i heard.

he supposedly had motivation problems, but for some reason he always put in a ton of work so those things don't exactly jive.

he had some team discipline problems and was known for taking plays off but then would turn things around on a dime and would go above and beyond what was expected from him.

i think he's kind of a guy you just have to go with the flow on. when he's on...he's really on. when he's off, though...well, don't expect much, but expect it to happen nonetheless.

any new deals with him are probably going to have to be incredibly incentive laced...not that that will be a motivator for him because i'm not sure he's motivated by typical stuff.

Yeah pay the man. Then we'll have Big Money and Little Big Money on the D line.

I see several vets getting the Restructure or Leave talk this offseason, I don't think cap space will be an issue.

Agreed. I've read where other (smart) teams have done this. Offer an extenison with a modest raise

before his rookie deal expires and lock him up for another 3-4 yrs. at a decent salary.

Hardy has shown glimpses of greatness for a while.......now if he can do it every game every play.

A lot of people forgot that this guy was a beast in college and was going to come out in the 2009 draft. Instead he opted to stay with his team for another season before getting hurt a bunch during his senior season.

NFL scouts can’t deny that the 6-4, 280-pound Hardy might be the best pure pass rusher in this year’s draft. He had 26 career sacks at Ole Miss (11th all-time in the SEC) and more than a fourth of his career-total 146 tackles were for losses (39 for minus 221 yards) -- remarkable numbers considering injuries limited his snaps the last two seasons.

exactly, and he will come at a much lower price.

my biggest complant concerning Pep wasn't taking plays off (all Dlineman do)

it was getting owned by TE's and back-up OT's.

BTW............did Pep play this past Sunday???

He played... He did get a weak sack on Cam, where the ref blew the whistle after he wrapped Cam up but couldn't get him down.

Yea Peppers played Sunday... They called his name in the 1st qtr on the above-said sack... He had reached his quota early and was done the rest of the afternoon...

I hope Hardy can be a bit more consistent, not just random or sporadic showings. If he can do this, that would more than likely open up a few more opportunities for CJ. Id love to see a sack per game outta both of them guys....
