Survey: The Poor Donate a Much Greater Proportion of Income to Charity

United States: According to a survey by the Bureau of Labor Statistics the poorest 20 percent of the population donate over twice as much as the wealthiest 20 percent by percentage.

Residents in the bottom 20 percent by income donate an average 4.3 of their income. Those in the middle 60 percent give under 3 percent and the 20 percent with the highest income only give 2.1 percent.

"As a rule, people who have money don't know people in need," said Tanya Davis, who just lost her job. Despite being a single mother living on unemployment and welfare she donates between $5 and $10 every week.

Thats because they rely on charitable orginizations from time to time to get by, and its a way of saying thank you.

But When Grandma Suzie gives 40$ a paycheck to the charity down the street when she only makes $250 thats a lot bigger % than when Bill Gates donated 15 million dollars.

Saw this article a few days ago. Doesn't surprise me in the least.
I bet many of those same poor people who gave aren't on the net blasting somebody for what they believe/don't believe or finding pics with politicans faces on monkey's bodies.

In times right now I would be willing to bet the rich have tightened up some and don't give as much. Hell that's why there rich they hold onto there money.

comparable study a few years ago also pointed out that those folks tend to be conservative in political leanings - hence, conservatives are way more compassionate than libs, but we all know that anyway.

Does this include the 35 to 45 percent rich people give right off the top to Uncle Sam?
