How I feel about the rest of the season.. only 2 games against teams with winning records. Both at home. Time for a Fox-like finish to the season to save Rivera's ass and give us some false hope for next year.
If you're not a fan of Rivera I wouldn't worry too much about a late season surge saving his job. The chances of him surviving a new GM hire are not good.
So let's just win and worry about the ramifications later.

what if they get things turned around and the light comes on?
not saying it's realistic to expect that, but if there's some way to avoid another "rebuild" i'm all for it.
i'm officially pulling for the rivera staff to pull it together.
i don't care who is coaching the team. i just want wins and i hope that the guy we have figures it out so we don't have to gamble with another coaching staff.
I think everyone should hope Rivera can get it together.I would feel more optimistic if our OL is healthy
I am thinking we can beat the Chiefs for sure but outside of that we will have to play well.

we've hung in there right to the very end against much better teams than what is left on the schedule.I think everyone should hope Rivera can get it together.I would feel more optimistic if our OL is healthy

i think we're good enough to beat just about anyone remaining.
it's just about being able to finish.
no team left on the schedule will beat us the way the giants did. i don't think any team will outright beat us. if we lose it will be for the same reason we've lost most of our games this year and last year...we found a way to give it to them. we found a way to lose.
btw...our hurting OL did quite well against the bears, i thought. i'm not really worried about them against most of the rest of the teams on the schedule.

Secondly, I believe if we do finish strong. Our new GM may keep Rivera around to see if he can finish the job he started. I just don't see a GM ripping the coach away from a team just learning how to win. However, if we finish with less than 5 wins, Rivera may well be gone.
I don't think it is a lock that Rivera is gone after this year. Unless we show no improvement the rest of the year. And I don't see that happening.

Realistically, we could win maybe 4 more games (if we win today). At 5-11, we would still probably have a top 10 pick. That's almost a guarantee at this point. I sure as hell don't expect us to go 7-2 the rest of the way and take ourselves out of the top 10.
I think we should be fighting for every W we can muster. I agree with those who say this team, more than building talent, needs to build a culture of winning. Playing for draft position is what perrinnial losers do and what we basically already did in 2010. I don't think fans will have the patience to see it through and stay on board if this team goes, say, 2-14 again. We really need wins to keep the fan base excited. Also, JR should realize that another 2 win season would not be advantageous for his bottom line.
Plus, we don't want players to feel so dejected that they really start to throw in the towel, like the TB players did last year under R. Morris. That is a distinct possibility and I hope JR and RR are on the same page with NOT allowing that to happen.
I still think RR has done enough to warrant losing his job at the end of the season. If I'm the owner, I fire him as soon as this team reaches 10 losses.
We need to win by any means necessary. Screw the draft...its overrated. Winning is never overrated!
